Although the 2017 4th of July is quickly becoming a distant memory, there’s plenty of ways to celebrate the stars and stripes via automotive accessories. This awesome vintage surfboard from the legendary Nomad Surf Shop in Boynton Beach, Florida wears perhaps the best period decor you could ask for and is in incredibly good condition despite being a used board from the 1960s. Find it here on craigslist in New Hampshire for $1,500.
As a shop, Nomad has been around for quite some time. Founded in 1968 as a family business, it has grown in size and stature as its reputation for building high quality boards began to take hold. You can still find the store today in Palm Beach County, albeit with much newer stock than this. Incredibly, this board is believed to wear original paint and there’s no better place for it than mounted to a roof rack attached to a 1940 Ford Woody wagon.
And of course, what better way to show your patriotism than practicing your soul arch or cross step on a board like this one? This Nomad is currently located in New Hampshire, a long ways away from anything resembling waves, so it begs the question like any other piece of vintage machinery: how’d it get here? Was it purchased solely as garage art, or did it spend one season pounding the surf in Florida before returning to the frigid north in another season to get in from the elements and receive a new coat of surf wax?
I’d wager the seller is correct that not many vintage surfboards still exist, especially ones wearing their original paint. This Nomad has some evidence of use, damage and repairs, so it’s far from exquisite; however, what you’re paying $1,500 for is the largely original appearance and always-in-style combination of colors. In the time since we first spotted it, the price has dropped a cool $1K. Is now the right time to make an offer?
Cool board! 1000 no bid on eBay right now. Guess we know the bottom line price! 1000 – 10% ebay fee – 3% paypal fee :)
Nice board, surf it like you stole it!
NH coast has Surf with 30 minutes of board.
I found a Greg Noll board at a rummage sale for $3.00! Sold it for $650.00. Sometimes you get lucky.
Hope the guy you sold it to doesn’t read your post.
Your comment, “a long ways away from anything resembling waves” is odd since NH borders the Atlantic Ocean.
Not only that but The Wall at Hampton North Beach is a well known surf spot.
There are MANY in the North East.
I have an old nomad board I’ve been wanting to sell but I would like to know what it’s worth before I give it away for $3.00 lol. It has some damage since I let the kids play with it in the in ground pool. Any ideas where or how I could get an idea of its value?
