Law enforcement sounds like it’s one of those jobs that’s hard to retire from, as many officers seem to have public service so ingrained in their system, making it difficult to walk away. This 1974 Dodge Coronet here on eBay tells the tale of one lawman who spent part of his retirement productively, seeking to recreate the squad car that launched his career! Apparently, this endeavor took some 16 years to complete, and now, the result of one patrolman’s labor of love is seeking a new home. This big-block Mopar sedan is in Concord, North Carolina, with a buy-it-now price of $24,995, or the opportunity to submit an offer.

Sixteen years is quite a while to get a car exactly how you want it, and there’s no background information provided here, such as what engine this one was initially equipped with or what sort of shape the body was in. However, everything is right under the hood now, as a 440 that’s reportedly been recently rebuilt is presently in the bay. It’s paired with a sturdy 727 TorqueFlite automatic transmission, so this Coronet certainly lives up to the performance hoped for by many officers on patrol during the mid-seventies. Out back, there’s an 8 3/4 rear end, plus dual exhaust to help get the most out of that 440.

While the B-Body sedans made fine fleet vehicles and police cruisers, they also excelled as family cars, with this one now looking good enough to serve in that capacity on nice days. There’s no word on what kind of exterior work was done to get this one so straight, or if it’s always been this solid. The seller describes the metallic brown paint as giving this Coronet an authoritative street presence, and while that may be true, it also just works well on this body style in general. The black steel wheels and dog-dish hubcaps were also a good choice here, keeping with the all-business nature.

There’s nothing particularly standing out that would indicate this one’s themed as a law enforcement interior. However, just the overall condition inside is noteworthy, with only the carpet appearing to still need attention. My only concern here is whether or not a 4-door example will have enough desirability to merit the nearly $25k asking price. Nonetheless, this one seems ready for action, and I’m guessing it turns plenty of heads, both on the streets and at car shows. What are your thoughts on this 1974 Dodge Coronet?

Hmmm. Needs spot light or not?? your choice??
Nice one, Mike! My best friend’s dad had a similar company car (in olive green, of course) but with just a 318. My friend and I would take it out and hammer on it, frying the one rear tire that spun, until clouds of smoke were coming out of the one wheel well. If both rear tires had traction, I’m sure it would have been pretty fast. I can’t imagine a 440, even from the low-hp era.
Looks like a true hwy special. 🚀 🚨
Too bad it’s not a 74 Monaco. I’m not too far, I would snap it up for $20k, give it a CPD livery and have myself a cool Blues Brothers Mobile.
It’s at Streetside Classics. Poncho72, you might float that number and see what happens….
I really like this car’s persona/ aura/ theme.
Doesn’t look very comfortable to drive – bare-bones body
& interior.I guess that there’s someone with way too much money
who’ll buy this.
A 140 mph “certified calibration” speedo would be a nice finishing touch
Pretty cool Dodge here. First thing I thought was The Blues Brothers movie. Cop tires, Cop motor Cop suspension, and the last year with no cats so it will run good on regular gas. I would drive this car all day long and preserve it just the way it is.
Nice build, but you’d think that in 16 years, he could have found some vintage police gear to complete the package. As it sits, it looks like a company car ordered by a sales rep who managed to slip the 440 past the accounting department.
Not sure why but i really like this car. The only thing i would change would be putting in a bench seat with high backs that are comfortable while adding new carpet.
