Post-Pastor Paint: 1970 Cadillac Sedan DeVille

When you have a big, bold car sometimes it’s not a bad thing to go with a big, bold custom paint job. And sometimes it’s better to leave well enough alone. This 1970 Cadillac Sedan DeVille is listed on eBay in Crystal Lake, Illinois and it has a big, bold buy it now price of $9,000 or you can make an offer. Let’s check out this tattooed lady.

This is a big car, well over 30-feet long. Ok, it just feels like it’s over 30-feet long when you’re creeping through traffic, it’s actually just under 19-feet long. 1970 was the last year of what I refer to as the classic Cadillac era, the third-generation cars. That’s not to say that the 1971 and newer models aren’t classics, but for me personally this is what I think of when I think of Cadillac. Cadillac was more than just a car, it was a feeling, a goal, an aspiration. I love the next generation Cadillacs and I even like the new ones – other than the SUVs, I’m just not an SUV guy – but for me, 1970 was the last real Cadillac as I define them.

This “car was owned since new by a small town pastor (no joke!) and the signs of his religious caretaking are very evident”. Of course that was before the wacky paint scheme that you see here. “And what about her flashy, fancy new paint job you might ask? Well this ol’ gal is quite proud of her fun, new, youthful look. She especially enjoys all the attention that it draws, and she deserves it! Underneath the paint is a rock solid body and a chassis that was undercoated from the factory. No patch panels or buckets of bondo to be found here!” The body does look perfect on this 2.5-ton painted lady.

The interior looks fantabulous, as a small town pastor would never say. Come to think of it, I should never even say that again. The seller talks about “the beautiful factory original white leather interior, showing only minimal wear on the drivers side front seat, with no major blemishes throughout. The dashboard and door panels are all still supple, no cracks or chips can be found. All power options work as they should-windows, locks, and seat.” It really does look like a very well-preserved example. Hagerty is at $14,100 for a #3 good condition car. Add in $5,000 for a top-notch paint job and you’re not too far under the break even point again, depending on your negotiating skills with the seller’s asking price. It’s unfortunate that this car was painted this way, in my opinion. But, most people think that it’s unfortunate that I have a mustache so you can’t take my word on style.

With all 24 photos counted, the maximum that eBay allows, there isn’t one engine photo! Arrrg.. I know, most preachers would be disappointed. They mention that “The 472ci Cadillac V8 is smooth and powerful, just as you’d expect, with torque for days! The TH400 automatic transmission shifts quiet and effortlessly. This car loves the highway! The wide white wall radials are also brand new with maybe 100 miles on them.” The 472 should be good for 375 hp, more than enough to spin the back tires even with the back seat filled with Apostles. I’m personally not a fan of the paint scheme here at all but maybe one of you will like it enough to make an offer. Any thoughts on the current paint scheme? Would you keep it this way or would you return it to its original glory?

With a paint job like that, it needs lowrider-style wires, a bit of a drop and some Doo-Wop playing on the stereo…

Man the pastors car used to cruise to score babes between sermons .

I am thinking this kind of car should get shipped to DC to help that old skirt chaser on the weekends between golf 🏌🏾 games 👀

Moon disks, lake pipes and a pair of fuzzy dice for me. And it’s only about 4 hours south of here…

If the underlying metal and floors is as stated it’s a good deal, if it isn’t, then, not so much.

I live in Tampa. This car would look awesome “on the cruise” in Ybor City on a Saturday night. 3 days left to bid!

Danny from counting cars did the same paint scheme a year or so ago, I thought for a second it was the counts custom car, but that interior was dark green.

Dairyman-I thought the same thing. It looks like the same car……..and did you know that Danny’s (the count) dad was Rex Humbart, the TV preacher in the 70’s-80’s? Very interesting…….

I’m late to this post, but Rex Humbard is NOT “The Count’s” father. Danny “The Count” Koker is a Jr.; he was born in Cleveland to Mary and Daniel Koker Sr. His father was a vocalist who worked with famed groups and artists from the Oak Ridge Boys to Mahalia Jackson. “The Count” is also a singer, fronting his own rock band, Count’s 77.

It was his uncle, not his dad…..

Looks like a little(OK, Maybe a lot) of elbow grease, an air compressor, a bucket of soapy water and a running water garden hose, add in a D.A. (dual-action) air sander with 400 grit wetordry sandpaper and go to town on the stripes, then go over it again with 600 grit sandpaper wet and I could have that green paint off that caddy in no time at all. Then finish it off with a good complete rub-out with a high-speed buffer/polisher and some fast-cut rubbing compound and I bet the original baby blue paint will shine right thru. Then a good coat of wax and it’s off to the cruise nights and car shows.

These are great riding cars, veeerrry roomy! This, uh, kustom paint job limits the appeal of this car. Too bad.

The colors make me think of after-dinner mints….the kind you’d have when going to a restaurant with your grandparents in a car like this.

That paint job is horrible. Very poor craftsmanship. That’s all I have to say.

472 ci will drain your bank account at the pumps, but at 7 thumbs up per mile this minty attention magnet would be worth every penny :)

The seller of this car just so happens to be a personal friend of mine, and he knows his big GM yachts very well! He’s an honest guy, as well as a car dealer, and chances are very high that this car is what he says it is (whether you like the custom paint or not).
