Prestige Pack: 1994 Buick Roadmaster Estate

Purchasing a Station Wagon often involves compromises, with space and practicality prioritized over luxury. However, this 1994 Buick Roadmaster Estate breaks the mold because the first owner loaded this seven-seater with a long list of factory options. It presents well, and the seller has ensured that it is roadworthy following a five-year hibernation. They have listed the Buick here on eBay in Kirkland, Washington. Bidding sits below the reserve at $4,850, though there’s still time for interested Barn Finds readers to stake their claim on this practical classic.

Badge revivals aren’t unprecedented, and Buick did so in 1991 when it dusted off the Roadmaster badge. The Estate was first to return to showroom floors, with 6,729 buyers taking one home during the first year. Sales peaked in 1992 before declining dramatically to the point where Buick drew the curtain in 1996. This Roadmaster Estate left the line in 1994, ordered by its first owner in Light Driftwood Metallic. The Wagon spent its early years in California, with the underside shots confirming that it remains rust-free. The paint isn’t patchy, and there’s no evidence of issues with the faux woodgrain. An in-person inspection will undoubtedly reveal minor cosmetic flaws, but potential buyers can consider this Roadmaster as a driver-grade classic. The roof glass and sunroof should help to reduce claustrophobia, while the trim and alloy wheels look excellent.

This Roadmaster isn’t a genuine Muscle Wagon as seen in the 1960s, but the LT-1 version of the 5.7-liter V8 hiding under the hood of this Buick should still deliver pretty respectable performance. The factory quoted a power output of 260hp in that year’s Sales Brochure, which feeds to a limited-slip rear end via a four-speed 4L60-E automatic transmission. The list keeps growing, with this Roadmaster also featuring power steering, anti-lock brakes, and the Trailer Towing Package, which adds heavy-duty engine cooling, an oil cooler, a 2.92 rear end, and self-leveling rear shocks. The seller indicates that they recently spent $2,200 on reviving this Buick after its hibernation. They addressed any issues or shortcomings, ensuring that the vehicle is mechanically roadworthy. Potential buyers can consider this to be a turnkey proposition.

Standard equipment on the 1994 Buick Roadmaster was pretty impressive by the standards of the day, including dual airbags, air conditioning, power windows, power locks, a tilt wheel, a rear defogger, and an AM/FM stereo radio with four speakers. This Wagon’s first owner spared no expense, ordering the vehicle with the Prestige Option Package. It included updating the A/C to climate control, providing six-way power operation for the front seats, and heated power mirrors. Okay, it’s time to draw breath, because I haven’t finished. They found the lure of leather on the seats and wheel irresistible, ticked the box beside third-row seating, and upgraded the sound system to the premium AM/FM radio/CD player with Bose speakers. The listing indicates that this Buick has 151,000 miles on the clock, and the interior condition is impressive if that is accurate. The seats aren’t significantly worn or physically damaged, the headliner is clean, the carpet looks excellent for its age, and the rear cargo area is impressively free of issues. It isn’t perfect, but the condition is comfortably acceptable for a driver-grade vehicle of this vintage.

The automotive landscape is ever-evolving, and we can’t take anything for granted. SUVs, Crossovers, and Minivans spelled the demise of domestic Station Wagon production, and there is no evidence that the situation will change. Of course, a manager at Ford or General Motors may wake up tomorrow morning and decide that there is a market for locally built Wagons in North America. Stranger things have happened, although I wouldn’t bet the farm on it! That means that it falls to classics like this 1994 Buick Roadmaster Estate to fill the void, and I believe that this gem would do so exceptionally well. The healthy bid tally and listing statistics suggest that people agree, but are you drawn enough to join the action?

My parents bought a new ’95 Roadmaster sedan for themselves for a retirement gift,it had a similar gold color and the same wheels. What a perfect car it was for them at that point in their lives. Road trips up the NE USA with my Uncle and Aunt, plenty of luggage space, and loaded with luxury. Those hit the market when the guys reaching retirement age had memories of those late 40’s Buicks with the Roadmaster nameplate from their youth,as Dad put it.
Only had one opportunity to drive their car though, but it had a gorgeous interior and good power.

My wife owned 2 of them; a 1992 and a 1996. The 1992 was all red. The 1996 was white with tan interior. Both were awesome vehicles. The pictured 1 truly needs a set of whitewall tires to change its appearance. They’re great family road trip companions.

I was sitting at a light next to an old Roadmaster a few weeks ago but I think it was an earlier model year. I’d never seen one up close before and was amazed at how enormous it was, and even more so at how fast it was when he stood on it when the light turned green.

    I’ve owned two, a 92 and a 95. Between the two, I clocked 250K miles. Great cars.

Call them grand pa cars if you will. The truth is these will not only haul cargo and a trailer. Reliable, with a few faults, like most of these of this era. Well, this 68 year old really likes these as one can put down 700+ miles and not feel beat up. Try that in your little buzz box jellyb OPean! Also, I can repair them, can you even do more than check the oil on your $70k piece of plastic junk? These are very desirable, note how rapidly good examples get snapped up!

Awesome tire burners. Tow pkg and wood 🪵 trim on this LT1 wagon are icing on the cake. 🏁 What a sleeper. Must be a hoot to drive. 👍
