After selling more than a million Mustangs between 1964-66, what was Ford to do for an encore? Treat the car to its first styling update which included a bigger engine compartment. A one-year-only color for the 1967 Mustang was Dusk Rose, the same finish on the seller’s car. 4,700 of them were built that way, and perhaps many of them went to peddlers of Mary Kay cosmetics! A one-owner car, this ’67 ‘Stang is in good overall condition, though not perfect. Dusk Rose paint was only offered for about six months in 1967 and only on the Mustang. The paint code used had been used just once before, as seen on the 1957 Ford Thunderbird. Just one percent of 1967 Mustangs were finished this way, making it a rare sight these days. We understand that many of Ford’s dealers ordered the pink cars to use as traffic builders for their showroom floors.
According to the seller, the title has never changed hands on this ‘67 Mustang. The body may be good, but the pink paint doesn’t match up on some of the lower extremities, almost looking like an amateur application after repairing some body damage, but no reference is made as such. The Ford comes complete with a black vinyl top and it – along with the matching bucket seat interior – looks good although the carpeting may be faded.
The listing says the car has a six-cylinder engine in one place, but a 289 V8 in another, which the photos verify. The motor is paired with a floor-shifted 3-speed-manual transmission. The car is wearing some sweet aftermarket wheels, but the seller still has the originals that will go with the car. Newly repaired or replaced items on this Mustang entail the gas tank, shock absorbers, dual exhaust system, and a rebuild of the heads and valves on the 289. But the pink air cleaner cover takes it too far. A few appearance items have been refreshed as well. If you dig pink, this may be one of only a handful of Mustangs you’ll run across that left the factory this way, on purpose!

The “Playmate of the Year” Mustangs are definitely the most famous pink Mustangs, but there were several shades of pink available to anyone by special order between 1965 and 1972.
Although it wasn’t done on a regular basis, cars could be special ordered in just about any color you wanted. I worked in one dealership where the new car sales manager had a ‘Thing’ about that & ordered quite a few ‘Special’ cars. When the cars were delivered to the dealership, the ‘Paint Code’ t on the tag would be blank & we would have to contact the factory with the serial # to find out what color it was in order to do paint repairs. I remember one car in particular that had a Studebaker color in it. A fairly dark brown metallic. In the bodyshop, we were glad when that guy moved on to a different job.
Working a college summer job in South Texas and driving through Dallas frequently on I-35, I noticed one of these pink Mustangs on the front line of a Ford dealer in Carrollton, TX. It was there when I started in late May, and still there went I went back in September. Not the quickest turn on the lot, even in Mary Kay’s home town.
