Pristine Round Up Edition: 1980 Dodge Ramcharger

The Ramchargers we feature often fall into the same camp as this preserved specimen, largely due to the fact so many of them are driven hard and put away wet. This makes the nice ones stand out even more, as this 1980 Ramcharger “Round-Up” edition exemplifies. The seller notes that it remains highly original, including the paint, and that the factory soft top has never been pulled up. Mileage is under 60K and this 4WD Royal SE trim example here on eBay looks like one of the better ones left.

The seller notes a few notables about this Ramcharger, such as it being the last year that a removable hard top and doors were offered. The hardtop lifts off all the way to the windshield, and a convertible top – the seal never broken – remains stowed beneath the hard top mounting area. The seller notes that from a provenance standpoint, this Ramcharger is tough to beat, even including the original “typewriter written” instruction letter about how to remove the hardtop. Paint is original and noted as being a two-tone “Impact Red” paired with PY4004 black.

The interior remains as tidy as the outside, with a backseat that looks unused and only the slightest signs of wear on the front bucket seats. The “Round-Up” package may have affected some of the upholstery and trim, but it was purely a cosmetic enhancement package with some additional stickers and perhaps some dealer add-ons. Information is scarce about this particular upgrade, but the Ramcharger also features the Trailduster Sport Package and a positraction rear end.

The 360 V8 is said to be fully-serviced, which occurred after the sellers acquired the Ramcharger from its longtime original owner. The wheels that are shown will not come with the Ramcharger; instead, the original white-spoke “Ranger” wheels are included – a better look anyway. Bidding is at $8,600 with no reserve, but factor in transportation and customs costs as this Ramcharger is located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada – about three hours past the border. Thanks to Barn Finds reader Matt Williams for the find.

WOW! What a great truck. I never paid much attention to these, until I lived in Mexico, they are allot of them there and many were well kept, and some were two wheel drive. I am weird, because I like two wheel drives the best, but this truck could change my mind. I probably like it so much, because there just aren’t very many of these, and certainly not in this condition. Bidding is over 10K now, I am anxious to see what it goes for, I just wish I was one of the bidders!

Figure $2K or so for transport and duties, perhaps a tad less if you are on the west coast.

Yep, since I’m on the south side of Lake Erie, this is geographically undesireable.

Father inlaw had one of the Ramchargers but a stripper I tried to buy it for off road use only because it was a rattle can on the highway compared to our 80 Bronco. This is a super nice one but for what I would use it for I couldn’t begin to even think of buying it as it’s too nice.

I have absolutely no interest in this vehicle, nor do I have any money or room to park it plus my police record would not make it possible to get into Canada, but I thought posting would be a good way to kill some time before I go home.

Wow, I would buy this one if I had room in my garage. Unbelievably mint looking.

Love it ! I’ve been keeping an eye on it myself. In 1987, I bought a 1978 Plymouth Trailduster Sport from an elderly couple who used it to pull their trailer around California. It had the 440 engine, a/c, towing package (obviously), tan/brown plaid bucket seats, and the center console that doubles as an ice chest. It also had the Sport package, with deluxe trim, two tone paint, roll bar, cb radio with giant whip antenna, and the posi-rear. I was in high school at the time, and piled all my friends in to go to the drive-ins, the beach or whatever. The top had never been removed when I bought it, but it certainly came off once it was in my hands ! Keeping the rubber seals between the top and body in perfect shape is definitely important. I want another one of these so BAD, I can taste it ! But I’d like to hold out for a 440 (78 was the last year as an option, from my understanding), and would really prefer a Plymouth. But finding a clean one of these is rare, just as the article says, most driven hard and half rusted away. I’ll be watching how high this one goes. It’s a beauty ! One of those vehicles you loved from your youth and wish you never had sold.

Truck looks amazing but does anyone find it funny the roll bar is beat up and scratched up but he claims all original? Its very clear the carpet has been replaced. Again not a problem but he claims original.
Claims top has never been off but there are scratches around the edges inside of the back window? Not a big deal but the Ram stickers shouldn’t be there either. Says bankwire before you can ever see it. I have a friend a few miles from he wont let us see it first.

Love this quote “You can remove the doors Jeep-style” You can on any vehicle I guess technically…

Maybe he found out he had a removable top the hard way.

Has another truck on ebay too, k30 dually reg cab, claims is original. All kinds of shenanigans there. Ebay history shows last truck sale serial numbers were different when checked at boarder. That truck right there is a broken heart waiting to happen. Guy sounds shady, little old man says to his mechanic, get it tip top shape and find a buyer for it. Riiiight. Nope

My moms best friend had a earlier one in black with orange and red stripes. It was so cool when I was a kid. Didn’t it have a roll bar?
I recall, even in the early 80’s, her friend complaining about putting $50 in the tank. That would be the reason I would consider one. Gas will for sure go Up again. Cost a near Fortune to Drive it.
But I love this color scheme. It’s modern yet Classic.

Ok, something seriously fishy is swimming with this eBay posting. This is the response I received when I asked to inspect the vehicle.

“Sorry but, you may be a little late. The Ramcharger has just gone through a professional 3rd party inspection, and may be tentatively sold on a “trade” deal, pending my inspection of the other unit. Please do not bid.”

What would possibly be fishy about somebody declining a showing, based on a tentative deal with another party. I’d say that “fishy” would be continuing to show after. This is being upfront, decent and honest.

the owner is a scam, a liar, never been screwed up this bad from anyone. I bought the car for 16200 including shipping to CA. when the car arrived was a disaster, totally different from the pictures, the paperwork was missing and the wheels despite our agreement was not on the car.
people like him need to be punished so hard.
please be aware of him if he lists anything else.
