The Riviera entered the personal luxury car scene in 1963 as a Buick. Using GM’s E-body platform, the Oldsmobile Toronado (1966) and the Cadillac Eldorado (1967) would later join it. Unlike the other two cars, the Riviera employed rear-wheel drive just like the rest of the division’s inventory at the time. The seller offers a one-owner, literal barn find where it has resided untouched for 40 years. Starting with a good bath, this car is likely going to need everything, so you’ll have to factor that into your decision to part with $4,000. Located in Dallas, Oregon, this Buick is available here on craigslist. An attaboy goes to T.J. for the tip!

Second-generation Rivieras were on the assembly line from 1966 to 1970. It used (for the last time) a 430 cubic inch V8 that produced 360 hp. The cars were upgraded to a 455 the following year, both engaging with a 3-speed TH-400 automatic transmission. Hidden headlights continued to be a Riviera trait. 1969 Rivieras had subtly changed over the 1968s, like moving the ignition switch to a locking position on the steering column. It was a safety feature that every other GM car but the Chevrolet Corvair employed that year.

Buyers liked the ‘69 Riviera and bought nearly 53,000 copies that year, including the seller’s forgotten example. We’re told its original owner drove it into this barn in 1986, and it’s been there ever since. As the odometer shows 19,000 miles, we assume it’s on the second time around. Another assumption is that the car does not run and may take a lot to change that fact. The hood is sitting on the roof, so perhaps some efforts were made over time.

There is so much dirt and grime on this Buick that its color isn’t obvious. My guess is that the paint is white, but it could be almost any color. Does the body have issues? Probably, but the seller doesn’t say, and no photos are provided of the passenger compartment. So, you have to assume some small woodland creatures may have been at work. Bring your trailer and a winch and take this home for an extreme makeover.

Valentines 💝 Day special from Dixon lol. 📞 1-800-the-hook 🪝
And Craig’s List comes thru again.
&100 with the dirt, just why is my question
I know cars are inanimate objects, but I just cannot help but think, that poor car :-(
Meh… It’ll buff out……
What the hell! Take a little effort, pull the poor thing out in the sunshine and give it a bath. People are so lazy. So what do I get for $4k. A freaking load of dirt! Amazing!
It comes with the little known “garden option”. Sale includes seed packets and garden stakes.
Then you have about 5 pounds of mouse droppings inside for fertilizer. Even parked inside for 40 years how does it get that much schmutz on the sides?
No,no,no; people like that are not lazy, they are a disgrace. How anyone can offer such a disaster for sale is, to me at least, a mystery. They should hang their head in shame for having allowed this to happen.
Yeah, subtract $3000 off the price for “cleaning”.
I’m sure it was running like a fine watch when parked.
On a brighter note…… Scientists were very excited upon finding this Buick when they discovered Sabre Toothed Dust Mites had been living on this one because it sat so long.
$4000 for what’s most likely a parts car? I’ve seen what years on a dirt floor does to a car!
Yep, she’s nice and clean, ready to go! NOT
well cared for, you can tell this one was a keeper, Impeccable in every aspect.
Perhaps the very worse thing will be found in this car and that is herd of mice. No doubt they have been feasting on wire insulators and upholstery.
If I wanted to sell this I sure would have it pulled out and washed it off.
Their urine has probably eaten right through the floor panels and soaked into what is left of the upholstery.
It appears there is another POS behind this one. That being said I guess you would have to haul one POS to get to your new POS. Good luck, not even if it were free.
Can anyone identify THAT car behind the Riviera?
One photo shows the hood attached and open, the others show the hood on the roof. Would it have taken too much effort to merely cover the engine compartment with the hood to keep crap from falling into it? At least they put a tarp under the hood, I guess so it wouldn’t scratch the roof!
My guess on that is that they tried to close the hood, but the hinges were frozen, so maybe they decided to take it off to work on it?? Or oil up the hinges? Who knows? Moreover, who cares?
I can smell it from Ohio. It ran when parked. But they removed the hood, to do an oil change?
All that dirt is the ultimate provenance… obviously the car has been untouched for a loooonnnggg time… so you’re truly getting it ”as parked”… .
Not joking. You’re going to need a bunny suit and respirator to clean that out. Is that some kind of crumbling insulation on the horizontal surfaces?
I owned one of these in the early 70s. Fond memories, dashed by the sight of this one.
ahh that famous statement “RAN WHEN PARKED”. 40yrs later laying in a dirt floor barn hood laying on the roof. all bad signs. i would say this riv has been reduced to maybe a parts car. looks to be powder blue. real shame to wait 40yrs and now try to sell it
Cash talks i would reach for the sky and see if someone bit the bullet driven into the barn hood removed most likely preparing to remove the engine if you can get them down to $400-$1000 it might be worth a look interesting it looks like they removed the hood on that car behind it to
This guy likes taking the hood off his cars leaving the engine exposed to the elements.
Oh, no! Classic car covered with corrosive chicken poo! Will need complete sand-blasting down to bare metal.
Well, at least this is a true BARN FIND !!
That’s an understatement, Solo. LOL
How you been, babe? Hope all is well with you
Hi Angel, not to bad thank you, apart from the fact that I have been diagnosed with Macular Degeneration, for which there is no cure. Hopefully I won’t lose my sight totally before I croak as I won’t be able to ride my motorcycle! Hope you are also o.k. and still driving your Caddy’s.
This is THE WAY it looks best …..
Sweet ride!
Ran when parked
Or ran when sunk?
Looks like it was parked underwater.
“Who’s the U-boat commander?”
With all of those cages nearby, birds, chickens, etc., come to mind. Is that what’s covered this poor car? Hazmat for sure. The sole light in this pathetic car-for-sale (aka, haul my trash away for $4K), is that one can positively see where the A/C compressor was leaking.
People live like this?
In that area. People have more tattoos, than teeth.
Paddle faster! I hear banjos!
Is there a car under that dirt pile?
That’s very questionable!
Is there such thing as a Barn Finds jail? Owner might be a candidate! lol
At least clean it.I get it sat for 40 years. The before pictures are shown. Clean it up and show after pictures and more pictures would be nice.
One of the You Tube “Will It Run” car dudes needs to buy this. Lots of views laying in wait.
The “will it run ” car dudes will not touch this beast unless NASA lends them one of those astro nut suites so they will be fully protected .
Would love some interior pics–and wonder what lives in those cages.
If I were you I would wonder what’s living in the interior instead. It’s been inhabited by 50 or so generations of mice, and maybe got gentrified up to rats. If you find snakes in there, consider it a blessing.
It’s got the hee – bee -gee -bees I think !
