While it definitely leads in the category, the Chevrolet Corvette isn’t the only performance car to be sold in a variety of special edition trims. The Alfa Romeo Alfetta GTV is already a classic that remains surprisingly affordable, but when it comes to the best of the best examples, you’ll still have to pony up. This car is a rare Mario Andretti Edition and it remains in outstanding condition. As such, the seller is asking all the money for his 1977 Alfa Romeo Alfetta, which appears to be in mint condition inside and out with its Andretti package contents intact. Find it here on craigslist for $26,900.

To me, the beauty of this special edition trim is a reminder of the significant role motorsports used to play in this country. The Porsche 924 Martini Edition was a similar exercise in celebrating the brand’s success in winning the World Sportscar Championship. Special decals, red carpeting, and a dash plaque rounded out the significant details, and the Alfetta Mario Andretti edition was a similar exercise in execution. Of course, the Alfa stands apart for wearing a copy of Andretti’s signature on the fender, along with the iconic clover decal. The cosmetics on this Alfa appear to be in excellent condition.

The Alfa got striking red carpeting, which in this instance, remains in excellent condition. You can also make out the red and green pinstriping on the exterior, another signature trait of the Andretti cars. The seats in the Alfetta have always been fantastic, and these buckets are in mint condition. Overall, the Alfa has clearly been well-preserved and looked after, and as one of only 150 cars sold, it’s likely one of the best cars left. The seller notes that in addition to the cosmetic tweaks, the Andretti cars also received numerous mechanical upgrades as well.

An Ansa performance exhaust, Koni performance shocks, Campagnolo Turbina alloy wheels, and more reveal that this Alfetta was more than just a pretty face; Alfa Romeo actually put some effort in to make the Andretti edition a fitting tribute to one of the world’s most successful drivers. The listing provides extensive detail on the mechanical upkeep this Alfa Romeo has benefitted from, along with details surrounding its rev-happy 2.0 liter DOHC engine, which sports twin Weber carburetors. Overall, there’s little to fault, and the asking price is likely the only thing holding this Alfa back from finding a new home. Thanks to Barn Finds reader Barney for the tip.

Wow 🏁 cool cars, great looking shifter, great looking interior. Campagnolo wheels, sharp machine. Must be a blast to drive. Thanks Lavery.
After almost 50 years after it was designed and built this is still a beautiful piece of machinery, but makes some of us pause with the choice-do you buy a really unique machine like this to be used as it was intended?
If you do every time you start or/and drive it lowers the intrinsic value.
But then again it’d be a shame not to do drive it, doing the best imitation you can to emulate one of the greatest in automotive history.
Especially in a special edition recognizing his achievements overall.
Had a lot of Alfa’s in my life — I will just say that 26K for one of these (no matter what the condition) is absurd asking price – like triple what it should be.
Not sure it will pass emissions in Calif with the Webers.
I haven’t tried…nor would I want to, lol
@victor…go find another then. In fact find one in this condition for half or 2/3rds the price. I’ve had a lot of Alfa’s too and can say that an
Alfetta like this is very hard to find (& by “this” I mean condition not a special) and given how forgotten the model has been over the decades so no real aftermarket for all the small detail items, you can’t build one like this.
As a one off point of reference, an Alfetta sold on
BaT for $80k a while back. Now that one was 4x normal but good to excellent Alfetta’s aren $10k cars anymore….
Jeff and Barnfinds…
What a surprise. I was perusing the site and saw my Alfetta featured! Thanks! If anyone has questions feel free to let me know. I also lowered the price to $24,900 OBO. Thanks!
This doesn’t seem cheap but please know it isn’t expensive either! Given what restoration costs the quality of this one will save work and time. A lot of both. The special model is for the particular buyer but it doesn’t affect the price much. A Turbodelta is a different story, (unfortunately). If I weren’t looking for a GTV6 I would be very interested!
This early GTV shape is beautiful. What a pity you had those Federal bumpers in the USA. On the other hand, the shape works best if you remove the bumpers completely.
Although Mario drove F1 for Alfa in 1981 (with no more succes than anyone else…), this tribute must refer to his sports proto outings with Alfa TT33 in the mid 70s.
Lovely car, good luck with the sale.
Agreed re the bumpers. And yes, the Andretti edition pays homage to his time with the T33.
I love this era of Alfa but you can actually hear them rusting. This one has clearly had a recent respray because the rust marks around the door rubbers are very obvious, which speaks to me of a possible cover up. It’s a lovely car that will go like stink but I would want a very thorough checkout by an Alfa expert before opening my wallet.
The car had been off the road in a Sacramento garage since 1990 and it was not been repainted during that time. And yes any prospective buyer is welcome to inspect the car. Thanks!
Located in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA
Yes, I could show the car either in the Palos Verdes or south Orange County area.
A distinctive edition of an uncommon car that’s been well cared-for and has relatively minor needs. Ice-blast the underside, fix that dab of rust, and give the whole thing a good detailing. The engine shown with the compression gauge doesn’t appear to be the same one as in the car. Show up with a stack of cash and start haggling!
Hi Frank…good eye re the engine. Yes it is the same engine…with a different cam cover. And yes the prior owner apparently had a small section of driveway that was dirt, so the underside still shows some residue even after I did my best with a hose. A dry ice or simple power wash would do wonders.
I have a car with a copy of Emerson Fittipaldi’s signature on the sides of it, as well as a real signature inside the console lid, number 241 of 500. Fun to drive, had 78k when I got it, and just turned 100k.
Price is now $23,900.
