If you’re looking for a vehicle that’s both a station wagon and something the other guy won’t have, this 1997 Toyota Caldina could fit the bill. The Caldina (aka Toyota Karudina) was produced for the Japanese market, so it comes with right-hand drive. This one was brought into the U.S. in 2004, so we assume it either passed emissions/safety standards or got a waiver. Located in Opelika, Alabama, this worn but solid Toyota is available here on Bring A Trailer, where the current bid is $2,600 (no reserve). Thanks for the RHD tip, Chuck Foster!

The Caldina was built in Japan from 1992 to 2007, spanning three generations. The seller’s wagon (the only body style offered) is from the first year of the second gen. The GT-T is presumed to be the sporty edition, so a 5-speed manual transmission was common, though a 4-speed automatic transaxle was offered (which the seller’s car has). The vehicle is AWD. Instrumentation is stated in kilometers,s which translates to 95,000 miles on this ’97 GT-T. The 2.0-liter inline-4 is turbocharged (we assume the “T” in the model name is a nod to that).

We surmise the Silver Metallic paint is original, but it shows some age-related issues, including scratches, scrapes, and a few dings. A hood scoop adds to the sporty flair, as does the rear spoiler and twin exhaust outlets. There are fog lights, but one of them is inoperative. The interior seems quite nice, and the multi-color pattern in the center of the seats was also used in the door panels. An early navigation system is present using a retractable display.

The tires are mounted on 15” spoke wheels and – while they have tread – they have some age to them. To help keep them pointed in the right direction, the Toyota also has Vehicle Stability Control and Traction Control, along with 4-wheel disc brakes with ABS. The radiator was replaced a couple of years ago. While the car is in the Southeast, the seller’s title comes from New England.
