Raspberry Patch Find: 1949 Dodge Truck

left front

This old truck was found hidden in a raspberry patch near Vacaville, CA. It’s listed on craigslist for $2500. Without windows and after being buried under those raspberry bushes, one can only imagine what the interior must be like…

primer

Unfortunately, the seller hasn’t heard of patina. He sanded and primed the truck to make it look “better”.

right rear

The truck does look like it’s all there and there’s no rust visible in the typical places. Is there any hope though?

I like it! That aftermarket bed with the fenders from the OE bed is different and sort of cool! This wound make a nice starting point for a resto-rod. Crate Chrysler small block, disc brakes, custom paint…

I agree Charles that’s what I’d do to, maybe add some graphics on the door to give it that company truck look.

Cool truck. We have to remember, not everyone knows about “patina” and to them, a primered truck, even rattle cans, looks better than a rusty hulk. I’m sure the interior and mechanicals are typical of something that sat outside with no windows for years. The contractors box may help the sale, as these were kind of rare, and still looks to be in good shape. Besides, I’m sure it wasn’t prepped very well, so leave it outside for a spell, and that “patina” will come right back. :)

Very cool truck, upgrade the drivetrain then spruce up the body and interior while adding some fake company logos then drive it.

Rattle can primer comes right off with cheap thinner from a big box store. I’d sand it off the totally rusted areas and use thinner on the rest. Looks like little prep and not much primer. Should come off easily.

Looks like a great parts truck to me, considering it’s previous lifestyle.

I like it, service bed and all. Too many projects for me already otherwise I’d sure take a look at it…

Great start for the truck of your choice! Exterior, interior, everything’s up to you! Love it. And these are hard to kill.

11 cans of Rust o leum and several hours spent to shoot himself in the foot. I really like this thing. If I bought it first thing I would do is get myself a couple cases of brake cleaner and some thinner then get to work. It would be the off to the pay n spray car wash. Very cool truck.
