If you’ve ever questioned the popularity of classic Pickups, one look at the listing for this 1979 Chevrolet K10 Scottsdale should remove any lingering doubts. The auction has received over 300 views in the past day and, with eighty-four people adding it to their Watch List, it has struck a chord with potential buyers. That is easy to understand because it is a one-owner vehicle with a freshly rebuilt small-block under the hood. The seller has listed the K10 here on eBay in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Twenty-four bids have pushed the price beyond the reserve to $17,500 with just a few days remaining before this classic finds a new home.
Chevrolet’s Third Generation C/K Series enjoyed an extended production run, gracing showroom floors from 1973 until 1991. However, time didn’t stand still, with the company performing ongoing upgrades to keep the badge feeling fresh. Our feature K10 Scottsdale rolled off the line in 1979, ordered by its first owner in an interesting combination of Black and Pastel Blue. The seller admits that it isn’t perfect, with evidence of minor imperfections and touch-ups. However, considering its age, the overall presentation is pretty nice. The panels are relatively straight, and any rust problems were eliminated when new front floors were installed. The bed is Rhino-Lined for durability, while the trim and glass are in good order. The exterior is given an extra dash of attitude, courtesy of the alloy roll-bar, KC lights, and the Rally wheels wrapped in new tires.
This Pickup’s mechanical specifications are about as bulletproof and user-friendly as they come. The first owner equipped the K10 with a 350ci V8, a four-speed manual transmission, a dual-range transfer case, and power-assisted steering and brakes. Manufacturers were less willing to quote power and torque figures during The Malaise Era, focusing more on engine capacity as a selling point. However, the Sales Brochure indicates that this engine should deliver 165hp and 270 ft/lbs of torque. Those figures aren’t high by modern standards but should allow this K10 to function as a pretty effective tow vehicle. The seller indicates that the small-block is freshly rebuilt and that the clutch is fairly new. The buyer can consider it a turnkey classic with no mechanical needs or shortcomings. They include this YouTube video in their listing, showing the Pickup in action. The engine sounds sweet as a nut, and there are none of the typical squeaks and rattles that often develop with age.
The positive news continues inside this K10. Although it is obvious that some components like the gauge fascia are original and show some age as a result, a selection of new items leaves it presenting quite nicely. These include a dashpad, seatcover, and carpet set. Naturally, those aspects of the interior are spotless, while the rest of the trim is in above-average condition for a vehicle of this type and age. The buyer won’t receive such touches as air conditioning, but the Kenwood radio/cassette player will be welcomed by those who aren’t keen on a spot of “carpool karaoke.”
Tow vehicle? Shop truck? Weekend off-roader? Those are just some of the possibilities this 1979 Chevrolet K10 Scottsdale 4×4 offers. It would perform any or all of those roles without raising a sweat, although it could also function as an excellent daily driver. It has no immediate needs, although it would really “pop” if treated to a light cosmetic restoration. One of its greatest attractions is that the winning bidder can take their time to consider their options because this beauty has no pressing needs. Combine those factors and it is easy to see why it has attracted so much interest. Are you tempted to join the bidding war, or are you content to remain an interested spectator?

Seems the perfect powertrain for this truck.
Just right.
This is really nice. 350 4 speed is bullet proof. The color is unique too, I like it.
I don’t trust what’s under all of the fresh undercoating and textured bed. The package, SWB, 4×4, manual transmission, 350V8 is very desirable. Reminds me of the father’s truck in the Rockford Files. I’d want to see it in person before bidding.

Agreed. The fact that it even needed new floors and underspray values it differently from a southwest truck for example with a dry rustless chassis
Notice the A/C vents in the dash, but non A/C heater box on the firewall in the engine bay! Red flag big time!
There was no black interior for these, so the door cards at a minimum have been painted.
Missing inner fender splash guards, red heater core hose and sticker on upper rad hose…HARD PASS!
Reminds me of the truck in The Fall Guy. Old Colt never spent much time in school, but he taught ladies plenty!
