Red Carpet Series: 1965 International Scout 80

International Harvester produced a number of special edition Scouts over the course of the long production run (1961-1980). This Scout 80 was equipped with the Red Carpet Series option that is documented by the Line Setting ticket that is included in the listing here on eBay. The Scout 80 has 1 day remaining in the auction and is located in beautiful Grand Lake, Colorado. Currently, the vehicle is bid to $8,100 although the reserve has not been met.

From 1961 to 1964, International Harvester sold over 100,000 Scout 80s. To celebrate this achievement, International Harvester marketed a “Red Carpet Series” Scout 80 in 1965 which was white with a red interior. A prior owner has painted the exterior of this Scout 80 in black. Also, the “Custom” badge that was mounted under the window on each door is also missing. Every International Harvester dealer in the US was allotted one Red Carpet Series Scout 80 to promote the brand. The interior of this Scout 80 has been refurbished and looks pretty nice. As far as rust, the floorboards, rocker panels, and rear quarter panel were cut out and replaced.

Scout 80s were equipped with a 152 cubic inch inline 4 cylinder engine that came from the factory with 93 horsepower. This Scout looks to have some of its mechanical drivetrain restored including the brakes, differential, starter, and fuel pump. The transmission was also recently serviced. Later Scouts came with the 196 cubic inch inline 4 cylinder that was introduced in 1966. Other optional engines over the years included a 232 cubic inch and 258 cubic inch inline 6-cylinder. Also, a 266 cubic inch, 304 cubic inch V8, and a 345 cubic inch V8 engine were equipped in later versions of the Scout.

As a bit of background, the first model of the Scout was offered from 1961 to 1965 and was called the Scout 80. The second generation of Scout was called the Scout 800 which was produced in three sub-models (800, 800A, and 800B). From 1966 to 1967, International Harvester produced the Scout 800. Starting in 1968, the Scout 800A (this one) was produced from 1968 to 1970. The Scout 800B had a short production run of only a few months from August 1970 to March 1971. It was replaced by the Scout II which had a 10-year production run from 1971 to 1980.

Interesting fact about the 4cyl Scout engine. It’s 1/2 of their V8 engine. Just like Pontiac did for the Tempest 61-63.

Yes, Alphasud, except that the Pontiac four worked much better.

and which one of those motors is in this one (lookid dat intake!).
Shyed away from them in the day (“6 companies made this frankinstine?”) to find most the companies do that now. Just did a Mini to find dodge ignition, beemer ownership, english prts, gm prt, etc. May B this co wuz ahead of it’s time? Naw, just desprit.
I got my bronk in ’82 as their ‘light duty’ went bankrupt. Wanted an 80 or 800 but feared maintainence prts availability. For looks – I still question my choice (altho love the ThriftPower 4.1L more than the 258. They’re both great). Round here I’d buy it, daily it and use the 4WD during mud season just to get home (or upa creek toa nice spot I know).
