Cheap collector cars are a bit of an oxymoron, but the concept does come to life on occasion. In this instance, we have a 1993 Ford Mustang Cobra with 92,000 miles on the clock that’s being offered with a very reasonable Buy-It-Now of $24,000. The Cobra of the Fox body years was a solid performance car all-rounder and lately has been surging in popularity as limited production models from the 80s and 90s come back into style. This one has a few modifications, mostly to the chassis, and presents well. Find it here on eBay with bidding to $17,800 and the reserve unmet.
As noted here previously, everyone who owns a Fox-era Cobra seems to be putting it up for sale lately. I suspect there’s some realization that these cars will never achieve the same greatness as a genuine Shelby Cobra, which for years set the standard in muscle car benchmarks. The 90s-era Cobra also had stiff competition from foreign and domestic makes alike, giving buyers plenty of options when searching for an epic 90s performance car. The Cobra as seen here looks completely stock from the outside, but it does have an aftermarket exhaust and rides on an aftermarket coil-over suspension. All body panels are said to retain original VIN stickers.
The interior isn’t described as being anything other than OEM correct, but right away, you can tell that those seats are not the ones it left the factory with. They actually look like the buckets from a later Cobra, and whoever did the swap also transplanted the back seat from a later car as well. I’m on the fence with these adjustments, as on the one hand, at least it’s still in the family, but on the other hand, I can’t help but think I’d like the Cobra more with its original interior intact. To the automaker’s credit, the seat design generally correlates with the era in which the car was made, so I like to think they know best about which upholstery pattern matches the car’s personality.
The engine bay remains stock, in the sense, there are no cold air intakes or superchargers installed. The seller does note a few more tweaks, including thicker sway bars on the front and rear and a tubular K member. I really like the mixture of modifications on this Cobra, aside from the interior, as you can’t help but put an exhaust on a V8-equipped Fox body, and the suspension and chassis tuning should address the one weakness most muscle cars have when leaving the factory: lack of sharp handling. This Cobra is likely a hoot to drive with those tweaks and the coil-over suspension, and is an absolute bargain at the current bid price – hopefully, the reserve is still somewhat below the Buy-It-Now.
high mileage? 92k in 28 years isn’t bad lol
Hah they updated the title 😀
If you like these Cobras, and many people do, here’s an alternative to the many low-mileage examples we see. It looks to be in good shape. If your plan is to drive it, this one will be half the price of the low-mileage ones. Maybe you will have to replace this or that, but you will have a fun car to drive on cruises with your local Mustang club.
Yes sir…Drive it ! Take good care, do necessary maintenance and enjoy. Beyond a trailer queen already. As much as I love these cars, It drives me crazy that SVT waited ’til 1993 … The 5.0 powered on in the Explorer many more years.
Should bring all the money.
Kudos
Lol this is my car! A friend of mine actually sent me this link. The car is definitely fun to drive and turns a lot of heads! Yeah, the seats are from a 94 cobra and are not factory, but are still very comfy and are full power too! I feel the price is very reasonable and the reserve is set at 21k at the moment, but feel the car is worth every penny of the 24k buy it now price I have it listed at.

And that exhaust needs to be Flow Master. I swear Flow Masters just have a different sound on the Fox-Body Mustangs for some reason. And that sound is heavenly to me. I had a ’65 Mustang coupe with a 289 and I put Flow Masters on it. And it sounded good but not like a Fox Body does.
I do not think it is worth the money for a car that has been so dissected- seats replaced and many other mods…I have an 88 5.0 with 85xxx miles with original seats, plug wires and just about everything else. This just was being made into a restomod slowly. Shame for such a rare pony.
Love the car and always loved mustang’s! Can’t see 24k though.. maybe if I was filthy rich multimillionaire I’d throw that kind of cash around for a for a rare 93 cobra but no way. Still an awesome car though 👍
