One of the greatest challenges of any auction is accurately estimating a seller’s reserve. It can mean the difference between taking an active interest and placing the item in the “too-hard” basket. There are no such dramas with this 1993 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra. The bidding currently sits at $25,500, which is above the seller’s reserve. Therefore, a new home for this classic is only days away. If that has piqued your interest, you will find the Ford listed here on eBay in Mount Sinai, New York.

As 1993 dawned, Ford’s Fox-Body Mustang was heading into its final production year. It had served the company well, with many believing that it had proven to be far more than a worthy replacement for the Mustang II. Ford had established its Special Vehicle Team (SVT) in 1991, choosing to entrust the Mustang to that organization to build a limited-edition, high-performance variant. The result was the 1993 Mustang SVT Cobra, with 4,993 cars leaving the SVT facility following the model’s unveiling at the 1992 Chicago Auto Show. Buyers could choose from four paint shades for their new purchase, with Black scraping through as the most popular, with a tally of 1,854. The seller purchased this beauty in February 2021 after it had spent its first twenty-seven years in California. Its garage-kept history and lack of exposure to the elements are good news, because it is rock-solid and presents exceptionally well. The paint has an excellent depth of shine. The trim and plastic are in good condition, and the 17″ wheels are free from stains and physical damage. However, the SVT Cobra is about far more than mere good looks.

SVT was charged by Ford with injecting some excitement into its model range, and it succeeded handsomely with the ’93 Cobra. It bolted a smorgasboard of desirable components to the company’s venerable 5.0-liter fuel-injected V8, including GT40 cylinder heads, larger injectors, an upgraded ECU, and a unique exhaust. The efforts bore fruit, with the sweet V8 sending 230hp and 304 ft/lbs of torque to a Traction-Lok rear end via a five-speed manual transmission. If anyone doubted that Ford had rediscovered its performance mojo, the Cobra demonstrated that it had. This survivor has 92,250 miles on its odometer, with the seller accumulating 1,300 of those since 2021. It has received specialist attention to ensure that it is in excellent mechanical health, allowing the Cobra to tick the box for those seeking a turnkey classic.

As with the exterior paint shades, Ford offered a limited selection of interior trim options to ’93 Cobra buyers. This car’s first owner teamed the Black exterior with Oyster leather trim, as chosen by 1,079 people. It proved the most popular choice, providing a stunning appearance that undoubtedly drew praise when this gem left the showroom. The car’s overall condition reflects its sheltered existence. Apart from the typical sagging door pockets, there is little inside this classic that deserves criticism. The leather is free from wear, the carpet is clean, and the plastic is excellent. The previous owner replaced the original CD player with an aftermarket Alpine unit, and the seller has tried unsuccessfully to locate a genuine one to return the interior to its factory specifications. Other factory features include air conditioning, power operation for the windows, locks, and mirrors, and cruise control.

If I were to pick a favorite classic from the 1990s to park in my garage, the ’93 Mustang SVT Cobra would be a clear winner. It offered crisp and clean looks that remained fresh, even after the Fox-body had graced showroom floors for fifteen model years. The magic performed by SVT gave this generation of Mustang the type of performance it deserved as its successor waited in the wings. This one is a beauty, and although its paint and trim combination isn’t the rarest chosen by buyers, it still results in a stunning vehicle that can turn heads. The listing statistics suggest that the price will climb in the auction’s dying moments, but what would you be prepared to pay for this Cobra?

Love these models too Clarkey, Ford threw in alot of goodies from their performance parts bin. Even dialed up some roller rockers. Neat summary here for anyone who’s interested. 👇

That’s a great link for a buyers guide Stan. Lots of good info there. Ford had years to perfect the Fox Body Mustang.
And Adam, great info from you too sir. I enjoyed your write up. Very nice Cobra here, it looks like it has been very well taken care of. Blacks a hard color to keep up with, and this one looks great.

Looks and sounds like it is in very good shape, despite the high miles. Lots of info and pics in the ads; it appears the owner has kept the car in near-stock, and near-show-car condition. I like it.
I think we are realizing that the 1993 Cobra will be an enduring Mustang collectible. If you like them, get a good one while you can.
