Restore or Modify? 1927 Nash Special Coupe

With millions upon millions of Fords to pick from for a restoration project, or a t bucket project, this Nash is a cool and stylish find. This would be an awesome machine to see restored, but the long nose and large headlights would also make for an awesome hot rod as well. Appearing to be in fairly reasonable condition, this 1927 Nash is offered for $2,600. Check it out here on craigslist out of Battle Ground, Washington. Thanks to reader Ikey for sharing this sharp find!

There are no photos of the interior, or the engine compartment. Although I think we can imagine the interiors condition based on the lack of roof on this Nash. Also I would imagine the engine, if it is still in place, has been at rest for quite a long time. I like the lines on this Nash, and I think an updated engine would be cool, as well as making this Nash look like a hot rod. Perhaps an old Hemi, or an old Caddy engine with plenty of carbs, and finned valve covers would be the ticket? Or perhaps something modern could get the job done as well.

As a whole, the body looks to have aged fairly well, but there is some not so obvious damage to point out. The fenders have suffered a few sheet metal rips that have been repaired with new sheet metal and rivets. The original running boards are long gone, and wooden planks have been put into place. There is a little rot along the bottom edge of the front cowling, and apparently both “A” pillar supports have rotted out. Two 2×4’s now support the front of the roof. Perhaps blasphemous, but I would likely cut off the roof, as well as the windscreen, and the upper portion of the doors, if I was going to make a hot rod out of it. A restoration would be a beautiful labor of love, but it would also be an expensive one. The cool disc wheels and its overall size make this Nash a cool find that is certainly worth reviving one way or another. What would you do with this old Nash?

I’m shocked it is still available at that price.

Just do a restomod on it and find a Nash ohv six with the jetfire dual carb setup and an automatic trans and drive it. The Nash was a fairly long life engine back in the day.

Agree on restomod but wouldn’t cut off the top. A pillars are easy and the top is unique in it’s own right. Might take a couple inches off it but that’s all. Fenders too are unique and large enough to fit any wheel/tire combination you want. Cool car!

I own a 26 Nash the same body style as this one. Mine too was a barn find it was taken apart some time in the sixties. I put mine back together fairly stock. Orginal parts are extremely hard to find and there is not much writen about these cars. If I had to do it over I would make a full fender hot rod out of it. Using the wheels also.
