Running Pony: 1971 Mustang Convertible

mustang

Most pony-car convertibles are easily 5-figure cars. This 1971 may not be to everyone’s taste, but this car is relatively inexpensive at a buy-it-now price of $7,777 and they’re listening to lower offers. Find it here on eBay and in person in Marlboro, New Jersey. Yes, Mustangs got larger in 1971 to 1973, but it’s still a V8, air-conditioned convertible that runs well and has a nice interior. And that V-8 is a 351, so it won’t be slow, either. The seller states there is a little rust in places, but it has been a Georgia car it’s entire life so there’s hope for a solid set of underpinnings. The pictures aren’t great, but they do highlight the nice interior (although it needs a top) and how complete the car is. It even still has the warning decal about applying the parking brake when you leave the car! Would you brake for this Mustang?

Title and VIN say this is a 72, not a 71

Jamie, I always liked the mid sixties Mustangs better, but this is a handsome car with a color that’s one of my favorites. It might be worth spending some money onto make it sharp and strong provided one wanted to keep the car. I’m not sure about upside market value here. But who cares? The major problem with these cars was ergonomics: I’ve had a 71 and it was like sitting in a hole. In my opinion Ford has had ergonomic issues forever, across the product line, even in my Lincolns. Having said that, it’s still an interesting idea……….
