This 1966 Fairlane has been sitting in storage for 30 years. The current owner bought it and has brought it back to life. He has now decided to sell it, so you will find it listed for sale here on eBay. The Fairlane is located in Springdale, Arkansas, and comes with a clear title. Bidding for the Fairlane is currently sitting at $992.73.
I always hesitate when I see a car fitted with snow tires, but all may not be as it seems in this case. The car has a fair collection of dings and scrapes, but it isn’t horrendously bad. The worst of these is in the passenger-side rear quarter, which has developed a fair amount of surface corrosion. There are a few spots of rust visible, mainly on the lower corners of the rear wheel arches, and if the back-story on this car is accurate, it would certainly help to explain the lack of rust. The car has apparently spent a considerable part of its life located in Texas. That would certainly account for the lack of rust, and why the paint also looks quite sun-baked in a few areas, such as the top. The owner does refer to the car as “granny’s hotrod,” but judging by the fact that the majority of the dings and scrapes are on the back half of the car, it appears that granny didn’t ever look behind her when she was backing up.
The interior is complete, and the vast majority of it looks like it will clean up quite well. There is a crack in the dash pad, but the rest of the upholstery looks pretty good. When we look at these ads, we do have to take them on face value. One thing that I find really strange with the interior is the amount of corrosion present on virtually every painted surface inside the car. This is not something that I would generally associate with a car that has been in Texas, but something that occurs in a damper climate. I’m not quite sure what to make of that.
Under the hood is the venerable 289ci V8, which is hooked to a 3-speed manual transmission. As previously stated, the car has been sitting for 30 years. However, the news is good here. The owner changed all of the fluids, fitted a new battery, and the car was up and running. I think that this photo was taken before the car was actually mobile because the owner does state that he has fitted a new master cylinder and that one looks pretty old to me. He does state that the brakes now work. The owner also has the data build sheet which was under the rear seat.
This Fairlane throws up some contradictions for me. The slightly baked paint and lack of visible major rust certainly seem to validate the claim of the car being from Texas, but the snow tires and corrosion on the interior indicates that it has spent at least some reasonable amount of time in a damper environment. If it is solid, then it could make quite a good project for a first-timer looking for their first restoration project.
The car has a water leak, and probably has had for some time.
A sleeper with a 289 / 3 speed 4 door and bland color. Hope his reserve isn’t much higher or he is going to be disappointed. JMHO
Jimmy, I think you maybe misunderstood on the term “sleeper.” This car, with a base 289 2 barrel and a 3 on the tree would be no means be considered such a model. Had it been equipped with a factory 427 and perhaps a 4 speed with everything else being the same, 4 doors and lousy biege paint, then we’d have a real sleeper on our hands. A sleeper is a car or truck that has a totally unassuming appearance in terms of performance but is equipped with a very potent powertrain.
No I didn’t misunderstand the term Sleeper, I just forgot to put a big question mark in front of my “A SLEEPER “. It was sarcasm sir.

Paint it brown and make it a Joe Friday / Bill Gannon tribute car. Theirs however, had a 390 with automatic.
