S-Code Roller: 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Ford gave the Mustang its first facelift in 1967, enlarging the engine compartment in the process. That enabled them to stuff a big-block 390 cubic inch V8 under the hood, which we’re told this fastback once had. Whatever this Ford Mustang used to be, it isn’t any longer as much of the car has been pirated for other endeavors. So, you’re left with a roller in Aragon, Georgia, that’s available here on eBay for the tidy sum of $19,500. Build it your way as it would be an expensive parts car.

With the muscle car market growing day by day, Ford decided the Mustang needed more than a 289 V8. So, the updates made in 1967 went beyond styling and you could order one with an S-code 390 engine that produced 320 hp. The seller’s Marti Report (which we don’t see) indicates this was once such a car, and it was paired with an automatic transmission. We’re told the VIN is still present along with the door tag, yet none of this is offered up in photos to help sell what is otherwise a well-worn roller. The car is also referred to as a 1968 model, but we’d defer to the 1967 headline.

When this auto was built, it was supposedly dipped in Candy Apple Red paint and fitted with a black interior. Part of the latter remains, but much has taken flight. The seller refers to “common rust repairs” being needed and that the driver’s side frame rails are beyond fixing and will need replacing. One thing that has managed to survive is the 9-inch rear end.

Despite the changes to the Mustang in 1967, sales inevitably went down thanks to Chevrolet and others getting into the pony car space. 472,000 Mustangs were built in ’67, a decline of 22% from the peak in 1966 that would never be repeated. More than 71,000 were fastbacks like this one, in “standard” or “luxury” trim. Who wants to bring this pony back to life?

Seems like one could pay less for more car as the base of a project. But I am not a Ford guy, and maybe this one will pull strongly enough at someone’s heart strings to part them from so much money.

“The seller refers to “common rust repairs” being needed and that the driver’s side frame rails are beyond fixing and will need replacing,…..”
And no interior, no stering column, no glasswork, no seats, no dash, etc, etc,…
Remind again of what’s worth $19,5K here?
The add got pulled from ebay at 1:48 PM 14 December, I wonder why,….

North End Mike…..I can tell you why. And Russ you also. Aragon, Georgia is not far from me. This guy operates a salvage yard. That should come as no surprise based on this exhibit. He has sold two previous mustang listings on BF’s that were stripped as well. He finds suckers pure & simple here. And pockets great sums of $$$.

Idk what you call a place with dozens of INOPERABLE STRIPPED or GUTTED vehicles in your mind then. Look at these comments! And he had removed his ad within 36 hrs. of posting. Hmmm. Scruples? At 67, one thing I am not is incompetent. As musician Dave Mason sang, “I guess we agree to disagree.” I don’t sweat the small things in life, which most of it is. Enjoy your day.

And 2 more behind this one. I bet he’d part with all 3 for $50,000. A steal!

It was dipped in something but I’m not sure it was red paint. Ridiculous asking price

He is about $18,000 to hi. It will take $75,000 to make it worth $60,000.

I’m a long time reader here but I rarely have commented. It seems to me that you would be better off to just simply buy a dynacorn body. I was just on the website and a new dynacorn 1967 mustang fastback body is $17500 . So for $2000 less than the asking price here you’re getting a mustang shell with all new sheet metal. You’re basically just getting a shell with this car anyways.
