Same Family Since New: 1967 Ford Mustang

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Sales of the Ford Mustang were off by more than 20% in 1967, but that was because competition had finally arrived on the scene. At 472,000 copies, the Mustang still outsold the new Chevy Camaro by more than 2 to 1. The sheet metal was new, but the automobile was still unmistakenly a Mustang. This beautiful ’67 example was purchased new by the seller’s aunt, so it’s been in the same family for 58 years. Located in Tarzana, California, this sweet pony car is available here on eBay for $10,000 plus whatever it will take to crack through the seller’s reserve.

With the structural changes to the Mustang in 1967, the car was now in big-block territory and could carry a 390 cubic-inch V8.  I don’t think one is in the seller’s car, but the label on the air cleaner is hard to read as a 289 either. This Ford has an automatic transmission and air conditioning which may be the first time the vents were integrated with the dash instead of a bulky unit hanging underneath (factory or aftermarket?).

From all indications, this Mustang is original, including the paint and interior. And yet the car has 104,000 miles, which would suggest more wear and tear than is present. Whatever the case, the car has not been subjected to any rust, making it one of the nicest first-generation Mustangs we’ve seen in a while. Most of the seller’s listing is loaded with sales hype rather than hard facts about the car.

The title of the Mustang must be in the seller’s name since he/she says the car was acquired new by the aunt. Beyond the V8, transmission, and A/C, the options list for this Ford must have been short. But that doesn’t detract from this being a really nice car – if it can be acquired at the right price.

Hmm. This would be nice next to my 68. I could drive this on hot days.

It has the two tone seats and door panels. The 289 is probably 200 horse power. Very clean car. It will make a mustang fan a great car needing very little.

It can’t be all original. There is no way that blue, 58-year-old carpet in a 104,000 mile car could be that bright. The rest of the interior also looks much fresher than 58yo/104,000mi. For that matter, the reproduction interior in my ’68 Mustang is only about 20 years old and isn’t nearly this nice.

You are right. I’d bet it’s had a fair number of replacement parts. Ford medium metallic blues were notorious for fading and peeling, when I was a kid my parents bought a 66 full sized Ford wagon in roughly this shade, within 2 or 3 years every horizontal panel needed to be repainted even though the car spent its days parked in a carport that wasn’t subjected to direct sunlight.

The description is light on details from someone that knows the cars history. My mom had a low mileage 1984 Honda Accord for 30+ years, some guy knocked in their door and bought it, then listed it on eBay saying he was selling it for his grandmother who bought it new. I started following him on eBay, he continues to sell low mileage cars a relative of his bought new every few months.

The add leaves more for questions than answers and should include more details.

If it’s been in the family since 1967 there should be gobs of paperwork from the window sticker, purchase order, warranty repairs, etc.

Why 2 mufflers with single exhaust?! Is that factory stock?

I don’t think those hupcaps came from the factory,i have them on my 66′ and got called out on them.I was told dealer installed and could be bought off the parts shelf from 62 to 68 fitting Falon,Fairlane and Galaxie.Plus they are available in 3 different Mustang catalogs.

Only 11 pictures; I’d like to see more, especially from the trunk area and more of the body and interior. While not like most of the rust buckets, and certainly a nice looking vehicle, clearly it has been painted and the interior has been done. Look at the steering wheel fade for a clue, it is nearly a jade color. The engine (clearly marked 289, BTW) is also way too clean for 105,000 miles. I’d also like to see some receipts before making any advances on a car like this because the old adage is true: If it seems too good to be true, it usually is.
