With the number of first-generation Mustangs for sale at any given time, I often wonder how many hands some of them have passed through over the decades and what kind of care they’ve received, as some sellers simply don’t know their car’s background. This 1966 Ford Mustang leaves little to the imagination about its past, and this pony has clearly been loved and well-maintained since new. This beautiful convertible can be found here on eBay in Bend, Oregon, with the current bid of $23,000 still short of the reserve. Hopefully, this one will end up in the hands of someone who will continue to give it the same level of attention as the previous owner.

A detailed history is provided here, beginning with the first owner who purchased the Mustang new on March 1, 1966. After enjoying it for six years, he traded it back to the original dealer in ’72. Owner number two then purchased the car for his wife, who used it as her personal vehicle for the next 52 years until 2024. As time passed, it was driven less, with only 2,000 miles traveled between 2014 and 2024. This one isn’t quite a survivor, as a minor accident occurred on the right side in 2010. However, the repair is said to be of excellent quality, although this area had to be repainted. The rest of the finish is stated as original and in very good shape.

Under the hood is still the original 289, which is listed as the 200 HP version, meaning it’s the C-code with a 2-barrel carburetor. It’s said to start easily and run smoothly with no issues, and it got a tune-up back in 2014, along with two carb rebuilds within the last 11 years. As recently as 2024, a new battery and voltage regulator were installed, plus the C4 automatic transmission received an overhaul about 20 years ago. Everything inside the bay is just as clean as the exterior, and all appears to be in excellent order.

Although a quarter-century has passed since the interior was freshened up, it still looks great, and the vinyl top canvas appears to remain in fine shape as well. The seller seems correct when he states that this one is ready to enjoy now, and I’m guessing the reserve may be on up there, based on the condition and the detailed history provided. Any thoughts on this 1966 Ford Mustang convertible? What’s a fair price to pay here?

Beautiful car.
Looks like a good one to go after.
Love that interior
It’s only original once, and while the definition of “original” may be flexible, this one fits my definition of the term! A gorgeous car, worth every penny of the sale price! GLWTS!
Worth 25-30 k
Sounds and looks good in pictures. I wonder what it looks like underneath.
If there’s any temped investors itching to sink a reasonable amount in a “can’t loose proposition”, this is it, and you’d better move fast cuz I just may bite the bullet myself on this one. I will let it just sit and if I stay alive long enough, just a few short more, I’m convinced I will double my cash.
Listen seller what’s the buy it now ? AL heartbreakerraceengines@comcast(dot)net
Really clean, solid, honest car. 30-40k .
Listing ended. Wonder what it went for?
I am definitely interested in what it went for. Between all the Stangs and Cobras I’ve had over the years I am interested as heck to see what a real ultimate rag top is going for.
reserve not met. didn’t sell

I can almost hear the seller now. “Gee Honey, I tried to sell it, but no one would pay me what it’s worth! I guess I’ll just have to keep it until I can get the right price for it. Sigh.” Which is what he was hoping for all along, LOL!
