Show-Quality: 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe

You can often tell a lot about the life a classic car has led by the space it occupies when it is not plying our roads. If that holds true, this spotless garage makes the fact that this 1966 Corvette is a trophy-winning vehicle unsurprising. It appears to need nothing and would appeal to a meticulous enthusiast seeking something close to motoring perfection. The seller wants it to go to a good home, listing the Corvette here on eBay in Watervliet, New York. The bidding has pushed to $44,200, although that figure falls short of the reserve.

When rolled out into the light of day, this Corvette undoubtedly possesses the “wow” factor. It is 1-of-2,054 ordered in 1966 finished in Laguna Blue, with the seller describing the paint condition as 98/100. It is hard to argue with that assessment, making it easy to see why it recently scored a couple of show awards. The fiberglass is flawless, and the spotless underside may indicate it has undergone a reasonably meticulous restoration. The listing suggests the knock-off wheels are reproductions, but like the remaining trim and chrome, they appear perfect. It took careful scrutiny to find anything worth criticizing, but the few scratches and rub marks on the windshield probably prevent this classic from achieving perfect presentation. However, since several companies can polish these out, I don’t see them as a deal-breaker.

Chevrolet slashed the Corvette’s 327ci V8 variants from five to two in 1966 as 40% of potential buyers turned their attention to the big-block offerings. This ‘Vette features the entry-level 327 that sends 300hp to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission. It might be the least potent weapon in the badge’s arsenal, but the fact this car can storm the ¼-mile in 14.7 seconds confirms it is no automotive wimp. The needle could nudge 131mph if the driver is brave enough to keep the pedal to the metal. The seller confirms this is a numbers-matching classic and that its engine has only clocked a few thousand miles since receiving a rebuild. They also replaced a valve in the power steering and fitted a new fuel tank, exhaust system, and tires. The car drives perfectly, with no squeaks or rattles. It is a turnkey proposition where the winning bidder could fly in and drive it home.

I wouldn’t describe this Corvette’s interior as perfect, but its presentation would cause the new owner no shame if they continue pursuing the show circuit. There is a small mark on the passenger side of the console, and the speaker grille is warped. Those appear to be the only faults because the Black leather seatcovers are in as-new condition, and the remaining upholstered surfaces are in a similar state. The dash, carpet, and beautiful teakwood wheel are immaculate, and the gauges are crystal clear. The original owner ordered this gem with an AM/FM radio, and like every other item inside this car (including the clock), it works as it should.

The only surprise with this 1966 Corvette Coupe is that it has only attracted fifteen bids. A car of this caliber will always generate interest, and the fact the auction has just reached the halfway point may explain the low total. History shows the action will almost certainly intensify as the end draws near, but what do you think the price will be when the hammer falls?

They want to put it in a good home ?? Sounds like it’s going to be over priced. 45 would be the price..

I think you’re probably right. However with bidding at 44,200 & reserve not met I bet they are looking closer to 60k

        …@Mike J My guess is 60K won’t get it.

You were right. Made it to $66,100, Reserve Not Met.

What is the mileage? 80,000 to 100,000 is common.

The thing about buying a small block 66-67 is eventually you are going to want a big block like it. If you’ve got the cash to own both this could be a good one to own, other wise you’ll just sell or trade it for a big block. Just my opinion. Nice 66 Vette though.
