Slant-Six Survivor? 1971 Dodge Dart Swinger

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Dodge added the Swinger model to its Dart compact lineup in 1969 hopefully to inject some excitement into a rather ordinary car. The Swinger was only offered as a 2-door hardtop and could eventually be fitted with the potent 340 cubic inch small-block V8. This 1971 edition has the more common 225 CI “Slant Six” which were practically indestructible engines. It seems largely like a survivor which may only need some TLC. Located in Lowell, Massachusetts, this little Mopar is available here on Facebook Marketplace for $10,500. Another vintage tip brought to us by Bruce M!

The Swinger would become so popular that Plymouth lobbied for its own version of the car. That arrived in the form of the Scamp in 1971, at the same time Dodge got its version of the Plymouth Duster fastback which Dodge named the Demon. During 1971, Dodge built 102,500 “regular” Swingers plus another 13,500 “Specials” which were stripped-down versions. The seller’s Dodge left the factory with the venerable Slant Six paired with a TorqueFlite automatic transmission, which the seller says has been freshly rebuilt.

At 62,000 miles, this Swinger is a two-owner automobile that looks fairly solid. We’re told there is no rust on this Dart. We guess it has a white vinyl roof over old blue paint and a blue interior. If any of it needs any serious work, the photos provided don’t help to point it out. There is no point in suggesting a trade to the seller because he/she has no interest in anything but a cash transaction.

$10.5K, $10.5K, for a 6 cylinder Swinger with bad paint? The non negotiable seller is unrealistic.

This car has a 1970 front hood emblem and a 1970 rear bumper but is being sold as a 1971, seems odd.
