Solid Body! 1936 Buick Business Coupe

If you’re like me, when you see a car like this 1936 Buick, I can’t help but having two pictures in my mind. First, a group of men in suits carrying Tommy guns. Second, running the back roads of Georgia with a trunk full of moonshine. Let me know if you feel the same way. This car can be found here on eBay with a buy-it-now price of $9,000. Located in Seabeck, Washington, it will need quite a bit of work but looks like a fun project.

The interior needs a lot of attention to be made functional. You can see the floor is missing as well as the door panels. The dash looks like it hasn’t been messed with, which is nice. The seat is out of a ’36 Chevrolet, but the seller has the original frame and backrests from the Buick, which go with the sale.

There’s no photo of the engine compartment since there is no engine or transmission included in the sale. There is a ton of new and new-old-stock parts included though. It sounds like the seller collected spare parts over the years and never completed the build. The parts are valued at about $2,000 and the seller also has a 1969/’70 455 cubic inch Wildcat engine for the “right buyer” if interested.

The seller has cleaned up some parts of the car and as you can see, the underlying metal seems pretty solid. The ad does call out a few areas that will need to be addressed including the bottom of the door skins, the driver’s side lower rocker and the bottom of the rear window post. Overall, this car looks like a decent candidate for restoration, hot rod, or rat rod. What do you think?

I can see the moonshine runner but guys with Tommy guns makes me think more of a big black Limited running through the night. Maybe a Century if they wanted performance.

I bought a nice rust free running g driving very presentable 38 Sport Coupe for $9,000. This is a $500 car. When you are done building it, you will have more in it than it will be worth. So be sure you love it and will want to keep it.

My first dream hot rod, a 1938 Buick business coupe for sale $150. I was 15 and planned on buying it after returning from our family vacation in the summer of 1960. Instead I bought a 1939 Ford Convertible sedan for $300 on that trip! Yeah a better car, that I owned for more than 20 years, but I still wonder about what might have been with that Buick

If I’d gotten hold of a ’39 Ford Convertible Sedan I would have forgotten how to spell Buick…..

Ohhhh yeah. I get all kinds of different scenarios running through my head when I jump in my 38 Chevy coupe, but with the blower whistling me a tune and the 21.5 inch wide tires on the back, and an unstoppable grin it’s mostly holeshots at the stop lights that makes my face muscles stretch with excitement.😁 All built in my shop also if it matters. Down to the chassis, mustang II style front crossmember, control arms,4 link, rear end,I had to buy the shocks though.

Is this the parts car that comes with a much nicer other car?
As said above, this is barely worth $900.

We wonder why young people aren’t interested in pre-war cars.. Well, sellers like this are certainly not helping!
