There is so much to like about this 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 that it is difficult to know where to start. It presents superbly and features one of the most desirable drivetrain packages that you could order in that model year. However, the special order paint makes this classic stand out in a crowd. There’s no doubt that it would turn heads wherever it goes, and I have to say a big thank you to Barn Finder rex m for referring this stunning classic to us. If you would like to become the next proud owner of one of the most distinctive cars to wear the hallowed Mustang badge, you will find this Mach 1 located in Fountain Hills, Arizona, and listed for sale here on Craigslist. The price of exclusivity isn’t cheap, with the owner setting a sale price of $110,000.
The owner claims that this Mustang is 1-of-4 ordered in 1969 with this paint shade. It is known as Midnight Orchid and was a shade that the company offered on the 1969 Thunderbird. This color also found its way onto various models in the same year from Lincoln and Mercury. It has an incredible depth and richness and suits the swooping lines of the Mustang perfectly. It isn’t clear whether this classic has ever undergone any restoration work, but the owner refers to it as a good driver rather than a trailer queen. The paint shines beautifully, with few marks or imperfections. The stripes look crisp and clean, with no evidence of shrinkage or cracking. The panels are as straight as an arrow, with no dents or bruises worth mentioning. The owner doesn’t mention any problems with rust, and there are no issues visible in the supplied photos. The external trim is in excellent condition for a survivor of this age, as is the glass. The Mach 1 rolls on its original wheels wrapped in period-correct Goodyear tires. Overall, this car is sure to take your breath away if you ever get to see it in person.
I couldn’t resist but include this photo in the article. It provides a true insight into the beauty of Midnight Orchid paint and how stunning it looks, gracing the panels of this magnificent Mach 1. However, even this photo doesn’t truly do this shade justice. To see it in person provides an insight into how deep and classy this color is.
If this Mustang’s appearance doesn’t capture your heart and mind, lifting the hood should seal the deal. If you decide to hand over the $110,000 to let this classic into your life, what you will get for your money is the 428-4V Cobra Jet Ram Air V8 that churns out an “official” 335hp. It has been widely acknowledged that Ford was somewhat frugal with the truth with these engines, and many learned people state that the actual output figure was closer to 400hp. Whatever the reality, all of that power has to find its way to the road. It does so via a three-speed C6 automatic transmission and a 3.50 Traction-Lok 9″ rear end. The original owner also ordered this Mach 1 with power steering and power front disc brakes. If the owner pointed this Mustang at the ¼ mile, the journey would be a distant memory in 14.5 seconds. I’m sure that none of you will fall over in shock when I tell you that the owner says that this car has plenty of power. He also says that it is an excellent driving car, and it’s ready to be enjoyed by its next lucky owner.
The positive vibes continue with this Mach 1 when we open the doors and survey the interior. It is trimmed in white knit vinyl, which is in excellent condition for its age. Vinyl of this shade can often develop a dirty or yellowish appearance as the years pass, but that fate hasn’t befallen this car. It still presents beautifully, with no wear, stains, or physical damage. The carpet is equally impressive, as are the dash and pad. The original owner ordered this car with a Sport Deck rear seat, a rimblow wheel, a console, an AM/FM stereo radio, and the factory tach and trip meter. These items remain in situ, and all are in as-new condition.
Owning a classic car like a 1969 Mustang Mach 1 has many advantages, but there’s nothing quite like owning one that stands out in a crowd. That is the case with this particular car, and you will search long and hard before you will find one that rolled off the production line wearing the same paint shade. It isn’t perfect, but getting it to that point should not be difficult if originality isn’t a key concern for you. Otherwise, retaining it as an original and unmolested survivor has powerful attractions. With what you’ve seen and know, is this a classic that you would like to have parked in your garage? I know that I would.
Purple passion for a wild flower.
Highly-desired and popular model, in great shape, in a unique color. No wonder it is in six figures.
I’m In Lust.
Wow! The only thing that could make this Mustang better is a manual transmission. Beautiful example!
& magnum 500 wheels.
Not many photos of the white interior, but from what I can see, it has been reupholstered, as interior kits for these are available. It simply looks a little TOO good to be 52 years old without the slightest yellowing. No matter, as I would have redone it too had I owned it. By all appearances, this Mach looks extremely correct and will open eyes at any car show. The 428 Cobra Jet only adds to the desirability of this Mustang, as so many came with the 351 from the factory. Now if I could just hear this beast cackle at an idle, my heart rate might spike a bit!
automatic… :(
Nice!!!!
Yes very nice, but not $110k nice.
That Midnight Orchid paint color on this ’69 Mach 1 is stunning with the white interior.
I’ll never have that spare change to spend on a car, but I’m grateful I’m old enough to have been able to drive one when a used one went for $200
There is a car with just a purple paint code (WT9106) on another 1969 Mach 1 Mustang with a 428 CJ, white interior and a manual transmission. Sorry Midnight Orchid in not purple.
