Spotless Survivor: 1990 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible

There’s never a wrong time to buy a classic convertible. However, with Summer fast approaching, this could be the perfect opportunity to find an affordable example to park in your driveway. That is what is on offer with this 1990 Corvette Convertible. It is a tidy survivor, and it isn’t about to break the bank. Located in San Antonio, Texas, you will find the Convertible listed for sale here on Barn Finds Classifieds. This Corvette could be yours for $13,500.

The Corvette is finished in Bright Red, and the first thing you notice is the incredible shine that the paint is holding. We’re talking about a 31-year-old car from Texas here, so the paint condition would indicate that this is a classic that’s been treated with a lot of respect. The paint and body show no discernible flaws, and there’s no doubt that it would turn heads wherever it goes. The car is fitted with a Tan power top, and its condition is as impressive as the rest of the exterior. The alloy wheels on Corvettes of this era can show their age quite badly, but these are free from curb strike and any form of stains or pits. They shine just as impressively as the rest of the exterior, further reinforcing the impression that this is a classic that has been cherished throughout its life.

There are no engine photos, but we know that nestled under the hood is a 5.7-liter L98 V8 that should be punching out 245hp. In this case, the V8 is backed by a 6-speed manual transmission. Performance figures were nothing to sneeze at. The trip down the ¼ mile would be over in 14.5 seconds, while if you give it enough room, the Corvette should wind all the way to 147mph. Bringing proceedings to a halt are 4-wheel disc brakes with ABS. This Convertible has a genuine 89,000 miles on the clock and has recently been treated to a new battery and alternator. That sort of an odometer reading is child’s play to a Corvette, which means that there should be plenty of life left in this beauty. The owner says that the car runs really well, and given its overall condition, I find this easy to believe.

The Corvette’s interior is upholstered in Tan leather, and its condition is a lot better than I was expecting. The leather on the seats looks soft and inviting, and it is something of a miracle that there is no visible wear on the outer edges of those heavily-bolstered buckets. The rest of the trim and plastic looks to be in excellent order, while the wheel has no wear, and the Tan carpet is free from significant flaws. The air conditioning in this Corvette has recently been replaced, so it should be blowing ice-cold. A driver’s airbag adds a feeling of safety, while luxury features like power windows, power locks, a leather-wrapped tilt wheel, cruise control, and an upgraded CD stereo should make life pleasant on the road.

This 1990 Corvette Convertible would seem to need nothing. It is remarkably well preserved and has avoided the tired and shabby appearance that can become the hallmark of a C4 Corvette that has led a hard life. It offers a fantastic combination of looks, performance, and comfort, all at an affordable price. As I initially said, there’s never a wrong time to buy a classic convertible, but some moments are better than others. Now could well be the perfect time, and this Corvette could be just the car you’re looking for.

I love this color combination, can’t recall seeing it very often on a C4.
    And manual is a bonus.

You took my post right out of my keyboard. I don’t think I have ever seen the tan top over red before and a 6-speed to boot! Should be gone soon.

The color reminds me of a Ferrari, and I recall seeing it a lot on C5’s and thinking how awesome it looked.

Beautiful car and looks to be well cared for. I do have a couple of questions though, unsure if 90’s had a power top. My 86 has a manual top. On the engine, I’m disappointed there aren’t pictures. The L98 engine is a very strong performer and though it’s slightly less than the LT1 it’s a solid drivetrain component.
Due to the incredible condition I see, the price may be on the high side but I’m sure someone will pay it.

1990 has the first generation front and back bumper covers, but the interior is the better new style, no doug nash 4+3 (had troubles) has the ZF 6 speed which 5 & 6 are overdrives gas mileage on the highway around 25mpg, this car can drive, turn, and perform like a car five times the money, plus it can be an everyday driver, I know I have a 1996 with the one year only lt4 which all came with a zf 6peed, if it’s clean with no rust and been maintained, plus it’s a convertible! don’t play with the price, just bring it home and fun!
