In 1970, Plymouth introduced the sporty Duster, a fastback version of the Valiant compact. It quickly began to sell well, including the Duster 340, a performance model. In 1971, Plymouth added the Twister option, which gave the car the look of a Duster 340, but with a Slant Six or 318 cubic inch V8. We may have seen this Twister before (2022), but more details appear to have surfaced in the meantime. Still located in Corvallis, Oregon, this Duster is available here on craigslist for $10,500. Thanks for a little Déjà vu, Barn Finder Barney!

Parked side by side, the Duster Twister and 340 looked about the same. Like the use of twin scoops on the hood. Both cars had stripes, though the 340 advertised what was under the hood while the Twister did not. When we first saw this Plymouth, it had flat tires and was covered with dirt and dust. While some work has been put into the car in the interim, the seller may have added some dollars to the asking price.

This is a matching numbers machine with an automatic transmission. It has Duster bucket seats and has been sitting in a barn since 1989. The vehicle once wore Hemi Orange paint, though some kind of bronze was applied later. The seller says it runs nicely and will drive around the neighborhood, though the photos provided say otherwise. There’s a short in the fuse box that the seller has temporarily done a workaround on.

Other work includes an oil change, new brakes, and a new fuel tank. Enough to get it relocated to another spot from where the photos were apparently taken. We’re told the car has almost no rust, so restoring the body may not be a hardship. The vinyl top is torn, and the interior will need an extreme makeover. The car may not have sold three years ago. Is it more appealing now in 2026?

I’m slightly confused; the pictures from 2022 and the current ones appear to be the same!? It’s still covered with dust/dirt; did I miss something? GLWTS!!
This car has been for sale for a long time. It is perfect for me and the type of project I’m looking for. It seems overpriced at $10,500 not being a 340 car, yet what is a fair price given its low rust status?
Either way I’m travelling for a couple months on Monday and would look into it if it’s still for sale when I’m back.
says it a 340 car. i think it is with a 4 barrel?
The first sentence in the ad says it has a numbers matching 318. The last paragraph before the seller breaks down the fender tag eludes to it being born woth a 340: “In 1971 only 6.9% of all dusters were ordered with a 340, and even less were ordered with the Twister package.” I’m not sure what it was built with.
Oh Lordy, if only I realized what I had forty years ago! Bought a ’71 Duster Twister in the early ’80s when I was in high school, 318 2-barrel Stromberg carb with a 3-speed manual on the floor. Bahama Yellow in color, no PS, PB, or A/C. Absolutely loved that car. But several years later I sold it, as with the rest of my vehicles in those days, for a mere pittance of what it would bring in modern times
Even with a 318 with that 3 speed on floor would have been fun car. My boss in 1973 had a 71 with that set up and was painted autumn bronze very fun car.
Yeah, Dale. I traded my 65′ Chevy Impala 4spd. 283/373gear for a 750 Norton. Also I let go of my 72′ red Cutlass Supreme, and others.
I feel your pain!
The seller really need to pull it out if garage and detail the car, then show that it’s running. The paint looks period, if it cleans up, that’s a big if, this would be a good looking day 2 car. People on this site like to justify cars by saying they would draw a crowd at a coffee and cars, a day 2 car modified survivor would do just that, justifiably so. The price would likely still need to come down, if the seller cleans it up and runs, but not nearly so much as it is in its current condition.

Seller needs to call WD car detailing, they do it for free ( youtube).
Lazy! That’s how I feel about people that don’t move their vehicles out of a long storage and wash them!
that,s why its called barn finds, not showroom finds
looking at the pics in the ad that car has not been around the block in years especially with flat tires. i would not pay 10k for this dusty duster. this thing looks like it’s had the you know what beat out of it.
If he drove it around the block with the car like that, if he ever goes blind he will not have any trouble getting around at all ! I believe those narks toof grills are very expensive !
The picture is a little blurry is that a four barrel on it ?
Most likely it is. There’s not much point in installing an aftermarket aluminum intake manifold to stick with a two-barrel.
Pull the poor thing out into the sun and give it a bath! I just don’t understand these lazy people. A little effort will go a long way to sell this Duster. Looks like a good candidate for restoration but how can you make a good evaluation when it looks like this. Just don’t get it!

WHOA!!! $10,500 for a car that needs a lot of work; paint: $8K, interior: $3K, vinyl roof: $2K…Engine: $???! Plus what ever else needs to be restored! So, $10.5K + $13K = $23K+ for a car that is not a Mustang or Camaro of that era!!! Hmmm…!
I might drive to Corvalis to buy it. But not just to look at a dirt pile on wheels. At least, HOSE IT DOWN!
This is a 318 car but the add says 6.9% were ordered with a 340…. So what’s that got to do with this car… odd
Leave the dirt, it’d be a hit in the MCACAN barn find section.
Pictures that scream “I don’t really want to sell this thing or even make an effort to get it presentable”. A price that says ” I just want 10 grand for doing almost nothing”.
