Storage Unit Find: 1975 Buick Regal

Buick introduced the Regal in 1973, a personal luxury version of the mid-size Century. The 2-door coupe would continue through 1997, after which it was only available as a sedan (changing markets). This one-owner 1975 edition from GM’s Colonnade styling era has time capsule qualities and may have been kept in storage for a time. With just 68,000 miles, it’s in Mercer, Pennsylvania, and this sweet Buick is available here on craigslist for $10,500 OBO.

First-generation Regals were built between 1973-77 and were trimmed at a level comparable to Oldsmobile’s popular Cutlass Supreme. Unlike the physically similar Century, the Regal coupe had newly fashionable opera windows, which were small, fixed rear-side windows surrounded by sheet metal. The interiors were a step up from the entry-level Buicks with woodgrain trim on dashboard and door panels, and bench seats with center armrests had cloth, velour, or vinyl upholstery. Sales were brisk, but not at the same level as the Cutlass Supreme or Chevy’s Monte Carlo. In 1975, the year of the seller’s car, some 56,000 Regal coupes left the factory.

This gold and white ’75 Regal looks hardly used, having been owned by the same party for 47 years. There is no evidence of rust, and the paint is nice and shiny. The Landau vinyl roof also appears to be without problems. It’s a well-equipped car with features you would expect from a Buick, like power steering and brakes, electric windows, and factory air conditioning. We assume it all works as it should.

The Buick is powered by a 350 cubic-inch V8, a common engine in the Regal in those days. No mention is made of its running condition, so we must assume that’s on par with the overall presentation of the automobile. Online price guides suggest that $10,000 is top dollar for one of these cars, so if this machine is as perfect as it looks, the seller seems to have done his/her homework.

These were good looking cars, better than the next gen, downsized Regal.

I agree. Except for the Buick Grand National, the later gen Regal looks awful!

I agree. For some reason, they switched to twin bucket seats. Even for trucks and SUVs. I’ve never found bucket seats very comfortable.

In the fall of 1980 i looked at a 74 regal with a 455 in it, that was a really nice ride. I don’t remember what the asking price was but it was way more than i could afford with my 4 dollar an hour job

IMO Buick’s version was the prettiest of the Colonnade coupes ’73-’75 – and Buick’s own designers managed to completely torpedo it with the ’76-’77 redesign. By removing the unique swooshy curve and introducing the horizontal quad face everything that set the Buick apart was gone. To me the hideous ’76-’77 Century lean back face looks like some GM do Brazil half-hearted attempt to extend the lifespan of an aging platform…

This ’75 appears to be a very sound example in nice period colors. There seems to be some white spots on the headliner which I fear could be mildew from storage. Hopefully it can be removed and isn’t representative for other hidden interior surfaces – funny smells will indeed reduce the enjoyment of an otherwise nice vintage vehicle…

I looked at that regal and it’s an overall nice car but does need some work.. Does have a musty smell inside. It does run but has not been pa inspected since 1988. In my opinion he’s asking to much for it because high retail is $9600.00.

Lovely looking car. If only more photos were posted. When it comes to selling a car online, the more pics shown, the better. Given its condition, I’d pay close to $10,000. I’d still have enough money on hand to have an inspection performed on the car, make sure everything is as functional and as safe to operate as possible.

Solid Buick! Never gave these a second look back in the day but now I’m really diggin’ this one! I’ll bet it runs and drives really smooth with that Buick power. The price seems like there may be room to negotiate, cash talks!

Although I was way too young to drive a car at the time, I remember cars like this Buick Regal. My grandparents on my mother’s side drove Buicks and Chevys back in the day.

If my 50 year old Corvette and 19 year old Grand Marquis weren’t in my garage, this would be asap. Love the 73 to 75 Buicks. After that GM ruined them. Most of these rotted to the windows and Mercer, PA is in the snow belt.

All it needs is a good supply of lolipops in the glove compartment, so you can play tv detective.
