The 1970-72 Pontiac LeMans Sport was sort of a cross between a regular LeMans and a GTO. It came with a standard V8 engine and trim that resembled that of the GTO. The seller has a convertible that he/she says is rare, but at 4,670 copies built in 1970, the rarity may pertain to the engine choice and features ordered by the original owner. It’s been in the project stage for 27 years and needs someone to finally finish the job. Located in Canoga Park, California, this drop-top Poncho is available here on eBay. It’s waiting for someone to cast the opening bid of $15,000.

As the story goes, this Pontiac drop-top went into the shop for a restoration (we assume) in 1999 – and then not much happened. The seller learned of it then but didn’t take possession until 20 years later. Then along came Covid and caused more delays. In the meantime, a bunch of new parts have been acquired to further the project, so maybe you’ll have much of what you need to put Humpty Dumpty together again.

What must have gotten the seller excited two decades plus ago was that it has a 400 cubic inch V8 engine (330 hp) instead of the customary 350. It also has a TH-400 automatic transmission, and – at least – the GTO-ish V8 has been rebuilt but hardly used. The last time the odometer recorded any miles was when the vehicle reached 85,000. Like a GTO, it has bucket seats and goodies like factory air conditioning to help with cruising around.

The body seems okay, sans a few little dents and dings. The convertible, too, is shot, but the frame is good. Most of the seller’s photos are of parts (new and used) waiting to be reattached. That includes the Sandalwood interior. There seems to be a selection of wheels and tires that the buyer can choose from (or can get them all by talking turkey). The rear end is out of the car, but may be back in by the time the auction closes.

$15,000.00 way too much in that shape more like maybe 8k
I saw this car on craigslist for sale I believe sometime last summer for sale. A lot of work here for that money Less that 10K for this Pontiac.
I had a 72 Lemans Sport hardtop in high school. Mine was sported out with an underdash Pioneer 8 track. It was a throw away car in the early 80’s. I think I bought mine for $800.
it cool but it needs a rear in it just to get out of where it is. it’s a convert and looks clean but needs a lot of work for the ask price. more like 7500.00
In 2026, exactly who is gonna deal with this, at ANY price? It’s a “please come and get it out of my carport” deal.
The guys who once could deal with something like this are liquidating their own stash and selling their tools, either by choice of by necessity. Reality.
Terrible add and photos. Lost all interest after 3 photos.
I bought a 72 Lemans. It was a350 Hipo with a4speed. Loved that car. One of those cars you wished you would have kept. The car was yellow with black stripes.
