Stored 30 Years: 1969 Pontiac Firebird

It’s always interesting when a seller shares the reason they’ve decided to let go of a vehicle, especially one that they or an associate has owned for a long time.  We often hear of space issues, not enough time, health concerns, or even death being the motive to get an auto into somebody else’s hands.  The seller of this 1969 Pontiac Firebird here on Craigslist gives two reasons why he’s ready to pass this car along, one of which is too many vehicles on hand.  Secondly, it’s mentioned that his kids are nearing the age of getting a license, and the hassle of telling them they can’t get behind the wheel isn’t a burden he’s ready for.  If you’ve been looking for a vintage F-Body driver that can be worked on as time permits, this one’s probably worth considering.  It’s located in Madison, Wisconsin, and comes with an asking price of $16,900, although reasonable offers will also be considered.

We’d like to thank Barn Finds reader Barney for finding this cool Pontiac and sending us the tip!  The background here is that this Firebird has been in the seller’s family for over four decades, and it’s fresh out of a 30-year storage just this summer.  The facility had a concrete floor with the car on stands, so the conditions were favorable, plus a significant amount of metal work was done before the long hibernation.  Some of this included fresh floors, rear wheel wells, rockers, plus a trunk pan, and although we get only a couple of outside pictures to view, the body seems to be in pretty solid shape overall.

The seller states his Firebird is a YE code, indicating it came from the factory equipped with a 350 engine rated at 265 horsepower.  This one’s had an intake from a ’72 date code 400 added, and even after all the time this Pontiac spent sitting, it’s claimed to start, run, and drive fabulously. The automatic transmission is also still performing capably, and is said to shift through all the gears with no issues.

There’s only one interior photo shown and no specific information given about the inside area, but it appears to remain in fairly decent condition for the most part.  There’s some tearing in the driver’s bucket and at least one dash crack, but it’ll do for a driver.  This one appears like a capable cruiser without too much additional attention, but also seems to be at an excellent starting point if the next owner wants to eventually bring things up to a higher level.  What path would you follow with this 1969 Pontiac Firebird?

I like 69 Firebirds and this one looks like it might be an interesting project.
I know they said it had a fair amount of panel replacement but they said it’s been stored for 30 years and I assume the panel work was done before storage which means this car was driven in Wisconsin winters for for over 20 years I can’t help but wonder what the under side of it looks like. The $16900 price tag seems a little high I’d feel better at half that.

If this was a ’69 Camaro? This would be gone, yesterday, at that ask. What I wonder, is why he doesn’t want his kids to get into the classic car hobby?

I agree with all comments. A lot of work here. This car was probably blue, needs a lot of thing such as interior refresh, arm rests, cracked dash, seats redone and a fan shroud and this list goes on and with so few pictures for a steep price. At least open the other door and trunk and show more pictures.

This dash should have been used in the ’69 camaro too.
