Stored for 30 Years: 1965 Pontiac Catalina

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

This 1965 Pontiac Catalina has spent the last 30 years hidden away in a shed, but it has now emerged, and the owner has decided that the time has come for it to go to a new home. You will find it listed for sale here on Craigslist. It is located in Stonewood, West Virginia, and is being offered for sale with a clean title. The owner has set a price of $6,000 for the Pontiac. A big thanks has to go to Barn Finder Ikey H for spotting this one for us.

The owner states that the car is in excellent condition, and it certainly does present quite well. He also says that it has absolutely no rust in it, so that’s a real plus for this car. Where we are in the dark with the Catalina is anything to do with the mechanical specifications or indeed, the condition of the drive-train. The engine could either be the 389ci or 421ci V8, but either would be backed by an automatic transmission. The owner does say that the car hasn’t run for 30 years, so there’s probably going to be some work to be undertaken on the mechanical components of the car.

The interior of the Catalina is reasonable, but there are a few things that should probably be addressed to really bring it back to life. The carpet is looking pretty tired, while the dash pad is also discolored. The other area that needs work is the trims in the foot-wells. These look a bit tatty but may be able to be restored. From what we can see from the single shot of the interior, the condition of the seats and door trims looks to be quite promising.

With so little information to go on, it is hard to really place a value on this Pontiac. Certainly, there are a number of Catalinas on the market at present, but the vast majority are either the Convertible or the 2-door Hardtops. The value is going to be greatly influenced by what is sitting under the hood, and how much work is going to be involved in bringing it back to life. As a solid example, is this one that you would be willing to take on?

This could be a great family/buddies cruiser. And not a common sight either.

“Where we are in the dark with the Catalina is anything to do with the the mechanical specifications or indeed, the condition of the drive-train”. HUH?

Perhaps a more succinct way of putting it would have been…”The seller provides little information on the condition of the drive train.”

Looks clean, would make a great cruiser!

    Love the mid-60’s Pontiacs!

Oh… And what can be told about the carpet, anyway? There is a full-coverage plastic mat over the literally the whole front floor! ??? It may look brand new under the plastic.

It dont have the 421 call outs on the front fenders so unless it was swaped in the past its guaranteed a 389 and prob a 2 barrel unless optioned with a 4 barrel…..also a non a/c car since it dont have the vent on top of the dash or on the lower corners of the dash….the black with red interior is a attractive color combo tho…been lookin for a 65 to fill the gap between my 64 bonnie an 66 prix but it has to be a 2 dr….itll be backed by a turbo 400 first yr for the 400 trans was 65…its a super nice and clean car just those 2 extra doors kills it for me personally….be the odd ball of the buch since my 62 64 and 66 are 2 dr hard tops (still looking for a 63 also)and 6k is i believe more then its worth….when you can find 2 doors for around the same cost in around the same shape….yes it would be a nice family cruiser for some one lookin for a 4 dr…..all in all tho its a nice “clean” and “honest” lookin car tho….

What’s exceptional here is to see that lucite steering wheel still intact! I was “awarded” my very 1st speeding citation (86 in a 55) by deputy sheriff behind the wheel of a ’65 421 Catalina 2dr. post. Somebody PLEASE tell me where 1 of those might be found today!

I contacted y’all about a clean, one owner ’65 I was selling for a friend. It had 40K miles and original everything, metallic blue-green with sea foam interior. I wound up selling it for $4500 to a Saudi collector who had it shipped home for a full (unnecessary) rotisserie restoration.

Got the heart pounding a bit…65 Catalina 4dr was my first. 389 2bl sleeper. 14.9-15.1 qrtrs. But I dream about getting a 2dr coupe. Would love to find one in this condition and similar price! Can’t afford the 2+2 or GP (and stay married)…
