Summer and Winter Combo: Daimler V8 and Fiat 1200

This is an intriguing package deal. Normally, when we see two or more vehicles come up for grabs in the same listing, there’s a theme to the offering. One running car plus a parts car, or a collection of some oddball like the Buick Reattas we featured a few weeks ago. In this case, we have some unusual bedfellows with a genuine British-market 1966 Daimler 250 V8 sedan and a 1960 Fiat 1200 Roadster. This clearly seems like two unfinished projects left as a service/restoration facility as the seller claims both are on non-op titles now registered in his name, but he doesn’t know much about either specimen. He’s looking to sell as a pair here on craigslist for $6,500.

The Daimler is pretty special, given it’s an overseas model and we don’t see this variant all that often. Stateside, it’s far more likely to see the Jaguar MK2, and while the right-hand drive steering may be a turn-off to some, it’s fitting for a British car. While it was popular to swap in a V8 in six-cylinder-equipped sedan, the seller promises that the Heritage Certificate will show you this Daimler left the factory with a V8. Unfortunately, the engine is now stuck, so you’re looking at a rebuild or some extensive lubricating and diagnostics to get it to turn freely. The seller adds that the wire wheels are no longer on the car as it had been sitting for so long that the tires were shot. Hopefully, the seller is at least including them with the sale.

Seeing red paint in the door jam is encouraging; of course, it also looks like the paint is chipping and shows white underneath. Was this originally a white over red sedan? If so, that’s quite fetching, and it wouldn’t surprise me at all to learn someone had previously changed the color when it was popular to convert everything to resale red. The seats are intact but dry and the seller notes the wood dash veneer is in “…good shape” but I’m not sure I agree. The Daimler was apparently imported in the 1970s and remains sound underneath; the seller also mentions he has a spare manual transmission he can include if the next owner wants to take on a swap project.

Now, here’s the little Fiat roadster that’s included, which looks like a restoration project that was well underway when it stopped. The seller notes that it includes a curious engine swap from a 4-cylinder Nissan of unknown origin, so that will take some further investigative work on the next owner’s part. Curiously, the engine does run, but the seller doesn’t know much else about it. The top frame is included it has no brakes, no top, and it’s missing much of its exterior trim. This also seems like a car the seller was left with and would prefer to get out of his shop (also, it looks like the wire wheels are in the background.) Would you take on this oddball duo of projects?

Seller’s doing himself no favors listing them as a set rather than separately. Few have the time and space for two project cars, regardless of the overlap between fans of either model.
