It seems the Typhoons are not done coming out of the woodwork! I find it fascinating how certain models all of the sudden materialize after seemingly years of never coming up for grabs with any sort of regularity. I suppose given the close-knit nature of the car hobby that many of us see a similar model to the one we own achieve a decent result at auction and it’s the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back in term of deciding it’s time to sell. This 1992 Typhoon wears the oh-so-90s teal over gray cladding color scheme and is listed here on eBay with bids to $27,600 and the reserve unmet.
This Typhoon, like some of the others we’ve featured recently, has also been driven, racking up just over 55,000 miles. That’s not crazy high but it’s also not a time capsule. We like seeing collector vehicles that actually get used, and this one doesn’t look any worse for the wear as a result of getting some regular exercise. The color scheme is a very 90s look, and one that has certainly come back into vogue. The lower body cladding can certainly be vulnerable to damage, but I don’t see any concerns here.
The interior is in nice shape, which is a compliment to the seller as these fairly low quality GM cabins didn’t exactly hold up to the test of time. It’s especially significant given the truck has racked up close to 60,000 miles, and those seats don’t look like they have nearly that much use. The same goes for the armrest and steering wheel which show little in the way of wear and tear. The seller doesn’t tell us much about what’s happening inside the truck, but hopefully, the air conditioning still works.
The engine bay is clean and free of any apparent modifications. The seller does note some respectable recent maintenance, highlighting a “…new heater core, new ACM, and new tires.” The paint work appears consistent inside the engine bay, and the engine itself is clean and free of stains. Bidding is likely a few grand away from hitting the reserve price, and while I love the color, I do wonder if other potential Typhoon buyers would prefer to wait for a more sedate black or white.
You know what I never see up for sale/auction? The Chevy S10 Top Gun. I haven’t seen one in the wild since the late 80s when I was in HS.
I’ve never heard of the “Top Gun” model. Did a bit of internet sleuthing, sounds like it was a body kit & decals on 1st-gen S-10s. Not finding any images. Was it a tie-in to the movie?
You know it’s not called a “Turbo”.

I have always liked these and wanted one. This one appears to be in excellent shape, not my favorite color but rare. Also ,I think the price is at the high end.
