Supercharged Pro-Street 1968 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible

When the freshly designed C3 Chevrolet Corvette hit the streets in 1968, it featured a fine selection of available engines, including both small blocks and more powerful larger offerings.  However, those who desired a supercharger were on their own, with the only way to make that happen being to DIY.  Sporting a blower is just one of the many fine upgrades found on this 1968 Chevrolet Corvette convertible, and for all you’re getting here, the asking price of $36,900 doesn’t sound unreasonable.  Reader Rocco B. discovered this one here on Craigslist in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and our thanks go out to him for supplying the tip here!

The 383 stroker is one of the crown jewels that can be created from a 350 SBC engine, made possible by boring the cylinders 0.030, then installing a crank and connecting rods from a Chevy 400.  The increased stroke makes for some hefty low-end torque, and I can only imagine how much more fun it is after sticking a 6-71 supercharger on top.  There’s no dyno report mentioned, but the seller says the engine runs great, and the under-hood presentation is impressive as well.  This one also features a Turbo 400 automatic transmission, controlled by a B&M shifter.

With the stance, side pipes, wheelie bars, and monstrous tires on the back, it’s almost easy to forget to focus attention on how beautiful the actual body is here.  The fiberglass appears to be in excellent condition, and that bright red finish is shiny and seems nearly flawless.  The backup lights have been removed, and the rear section now features four taillight units instead of the standard two.  The front section has also been updated, with the pop-up headlights gone, components that some enthusiasts sarcastically refer to as “air brakes”!

Inside, the factory dash layout has been reworked with aftermarket gauges plus the installation of a rollbar, and the condition in here looks about as good as everywhere else.  We also featured another Supercharged C3 earlier this week, a 1976 model that’s still available and can be seen here on Barn Finds.  In addition to the blowers, both cars have some other great features, and I’m curious to hear which of the two our readers appreciate more.  Given the opportunity, would you rather see the yellow 1976 Corvette in your driveway, or this red ’68?

I guess I’ll allow it. Kinda looks like a Hot wheels. I wouldn’t buy it, but I sure wouldn’t mind giving it a try at the track.

This would fail tech at a drag strip so fast it would make your head spin. It was built to draw a crowd at a car show.

I never thought of that. Good call. I guess it is a Hot Wheels.

It’s got a solid rear axle now and that’s a sensible upgrade considering the engine choice. It’s not a ’68 nose, looks like a rubber bumper nose heavily modified. Not my taste, but a beautiful execution.

Looks ridiculous. Nothing but show here.
