It would have been fun to be able to be a passenger on the Concord supersonic airliner that is no longer flying. Until then, although not quite as fast or luxurious, there’s this 1982 AMC Concord DL wagon. The seller refers to this one as a surf wagon and they have it posted here on craigslist in beautiful Vancouver, Washington and they’re asking $6,500. Here is the original listing, and thanks to Bret P. for sending in this tip!
AMC’s Concord and its related models, Spirit and Eagle, came in several configurations including a two-door and four-door sedan, a two-door hatchback, a two-door notchback, and a four-door wagon as seen here. There was also a convertible conversion sold through dealerships in 1981 and 1982 and they’re rarely seen today. This Concord DL wagon was a mid-level model above the base Concord and the plush Concord Limited. We have seen a few cousin cars, the Eagle 4×4 wagon, in Limited trim but I can’t remember the last time we saw a Concord wagon in Limited form.
The DL designation on the Concord Wagon added features such as front and rear bumper guards, extra soundproofing, woodgrain side panels, pinstriping, and white sidewall tires with full wheel covers. This example appears to be in an almost time-capsule-like condition. I don’t see a flaw inside or out as I look at the photos.
The steering wheel cover appears to fit right in with the faux woodgrain trim, but I would like to see the condition of the wheel itself. The rest of the interior appears to be in outstanding condition. The Limited model would have leather upholstery but the DL received a nice fabric and these seats look good both front and rear. The rear cargo area appears neat and clean – albeit a little out of focus – and I would take this car over any mid-sized SUV for grocery-getter duties.
The hose-heavy engine is AMC’s 258 cubic-inch inline-six which would have had 110 hp and 205 lb-ft of torque. It looks clean and that radiator isn’t original, it’s a new three-core radiator according to the seller. The air-conditioning isn’t currently blowing cold but this Concord has received a full tune-up and is ready to go according to the seller. Have any of you owned a Concord wagon?
With the exception of the cheezy Walmart hubcaps, I like it!
Those look not unlike factory AMC-Jeep-Renault equipment on a different (newer/sportier) model, I can’t quite place it though. But they clash with the whitewalls. Some era-correct fake wires would fit this car’s aesthetic perfectly though.

The Concord was the model name between the Hornet and the Eagle, all essentially the same cars. I like this wagon, but I already a wagon this size that lives the garage during the midwest winters and does not come out on rainy days. I’d treat this one the same way.
The ‘Concord’ DL was built by American Motors.
The ‘Concorde’ SST was built by the French and British.
(I know; picky, picky, picky.)
Sweet looking car. Although I was way too young at the time to drive a car, I remember cars like the American Motors (AMC) Hornet, the Concord, and the Eagle. My favourite were the Concord and the Hornet. The Eagle for its 4wd, and the Concord for its dated look, its style goes back to the 1970s. That was the neat thing about American Motors. Instead of spending countless dollars trying to update everything, they spend what they have to only upgrade what they thought they needed to upgrade, and hope people appreciate what they did.
In 1979 I bought a new amc Concord wagon with the same options as this car . The Concord did everything well but nothing outstandingly well.it was a terrific family wagon with lots of cargo room!

I drove a Concord in Holland, rather unusual car over there. Never had such a nice car before and because of this car I got involved into the off-road business (same motor you will find in Jeeps). I now own two CJ-5’s, a CJ-3B, two J-10’s (one restored but has to be finished, the other one as parts supplier). But I still regret I got rid of this Concord…
Dad had a 79 Concord. Apparently a base model in hindsight , although never thought of her that way. White over pale blue vinyl interior. Fantastic car. I took my driving test in her in 86. In honor of national lampoons vacation , we called her the Thurster. Only after years of code did we realize the Gene Levy was saying Queen Wagon TRUCKSTER. any who Lord of good memories in that car. Wish it was in Tennessee , I would buy it and force my teenage daughter to take her driving test in it
My dad had a new 1979 Silver Anniversary Concord. One of the prettiest and most reliable cars he ever owned. Wish I had it today.
my mom had an earlier Hornet wagon, in that crazy purple. I was maybe 13 years old.
All I remember was it rusted right on top of the fenders all the way through.
