Survivor! 1977 Ford Bronco Sport Half-Cab

Talk about a 70’s survivor! This 1977 Ford Bronco has the look with the flat and faded paint along with the contrasting rally stripe. There were quite a few first generation Broncos produced between 1966 and 1977 but very few featured a half-cab like this one does. Meant to be an ultra-short wheelbase “pickup-style” vehicle, the half-cab lacked a lot of creature comforts found in other Broncos. This particular Bronco can be found here on eBay with a current bid of $13,000. It is located in Draper, Utah and is said to have originally been found in northern Wyoming.

From the factory, Broncos featured smaller rear wheel openings. This limited the size of wheels and tires that could be installed. The solution for this issue is to trim the rear quarter panels to match the front fenders. There were even factory appearing flares you could purchase to cover the cut marks and make the modifications appear less obvious. As you can see, this bronco has had the rear openings trimmed, a fact that will turn off some Bronco purists. While replacement rear sheet metal is available, it would be nearly impossible to match the faded paint on this original Bronco.

The engine is a 302 cubic inch V8, which is a great engine for these vehicles. Easy to work on with large support from the aftermarket makes these engines very desirable. The power to weight ratio is perfect and performance upgrades are only limited by the owners imagination (and checkbook). The ad does state that the Bronco “starts up and runs and drives as it should” and has had the following addressed: drained the tanks, replaced fuel lines, rebuilt carb, new spark plugs, oil change, tune-up, check brakes (disc) and filled all fluids.

The interiors of most Broncos are fairly Spartan and this one is no exception. You won’t have to worry about getting any carpet dirty. If the interior does get dirty, just grab the garden hose to rinse it out. The ad does state that the floor pans have been replaced which indicates a past rust problem. Any potential buyers would be well advised to do a thorough inspection of the metal in this truck. What do you think, is this your next project?

Special Decor paint scheme. This one wouldn’t have been a half cab originally.

Good catch, this a cobbled unit. Still, it is a 1st gen Bronco, and I guess this is what it will set you back. The ad says sold for $1, so I imagine this person got their $13g’s.

Actually you can change any first generation Bronco to a half cab as the divider and top are available aftermarket. These small off roaders don’t last long when put up for sale.
