Survivor Driver: 1995 Jeep Cherokee

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

This 1995 Jeep Cherokee is described as an excellent-condition survivor that the seller had planned to customize with the requisite life kit and other add-ons, but decided against doing given its high levels of originality. The XJ-body Cherokee is now for sale so he can find a suitable truck to modify, and I have to say I’m glad he showed the restraint he did. This Cherokee is super sharp with black paint over a tan interior, and the spotless factory steel wheels and period Hella driving lamps are just two ways this XJ stands out from the rest. Check it out here on eBay to see further evidence of its clean and well-loved condition.

Mileage is reported as being 56,254, and I’m almost always more impressed by vehicles that look this good but don’t have time-capsule grade odometer readings. It means someone still used this truck while working hard to keep it looking this good. Sure, preserving something that doesn’t get driven isn’t particularly hard, but I like vehicles that get used but also preserved at the same time. The body appears to be in excellent condition, and even the black plastic bumper trim that’s so prone to fading shows no signs of sun damage.

The interior is damn near spotless, which isn’t easy to do with tan seating surfaces. The carpeting and door panels continue the theme of stain-free living, while the dash and steering wheel shows no obvious signs of use. The seller notes he has made some modest updates throughout, including new Sony speakers behind the factory grills and a Bluetooth-enabled stereo head unit. A cupholder and cell phone storage area were also added, along with HID headlights and the aforementioned driving lamps. All useful, but also reversible.

Under the hood looks just as good as the rest of the Jeep, with the venerable 4.0L inline-six with the kind of mileage that enthusiasts would consider “break-in” given the longevity of this powerplant. New shocks, brakes, and rotors were all installed, and I would assume the lack of info about the engine’s maintenance history indicates not much work was needed under the hood. The Cherokee passed its recent Pennsylvania emissions inspection, and other than a few cosmetic defects noted in the listing, there’s not a lot to complain about on this clean XJ Cherokee.

Great shape for a 25 year-old, a very clean example. I find this Cherokee especially appealing because it’s not cluttered up with bright trim or stripes, the monochromatic looks suits it very well. I’d image this beauty will bring a good price at auction’s end, you’d be hard pressed to find a cleaner, mostly original Cherokee.

    This car looks clean.

I will say on comments about plastic non fading that this car is dripping Black Magic Tire Wet Spray from engine to ties to bumpers. Overlooking the enhanced plastic shine the interior and wear looks good for a 50K mileage car.

These are great Jeeps. This one is a stripper with no power windows or locks or gauges, but with the 4.0 inline six. Still, a very nice example with about 200,000 miles to go before it starts to show wear.

This Jeep looks as it should, yet sadly we’re impressed with it’s condition.

People that trash and thrash their vehicles amaze me, especially given the expense to purchase one whether it’s new or used…if you can’t find an hour to clean your vehicle, spend $50 to have it done…skip the daily latte for a week and treat yourself to a clean car!

I digress…always liked the Cherokee and Comanche, especially nice to see one that remains stock.

I’m so sick of seeing the, “I bought this to modify, do blah blah blah to, but I realized it’s just too nice to do that to, so I’m selling” line. You’re flipping it, that’s all.

Great vehicles, and to find one without rust in Pa. is hard I have 2 sitting in my yard that have to go. A ’98 with a 5spd. (195k) and my wifes 2000 with an auto. (230k). The tin worms got to both of them, but they served us well for many years.

These things last forever. I had a customer with 380,000 farm miles on his, but I’d take a hard pass on this one. Only 56,000 miles after having seven owners? A salvage title? Be careful.

Nice rig, but why are the fog lights mounted BELOW the bumper?!?! First off-roading foray, and they will be sheared off.

One of the very, very few 80s/90s designs I can honestly claim look NICE. That 4.0 is an extremely durable engine that fits the Cherokee and Wrangler size vehicles like a glove, probably best I-6 ever produced.
But; have we really gotten to the point that a ’95 Cherokee is regarded as a collectible…?

Beautiful looking Jeep XJ Cherokee. I remember this generation Cherokee. I find it way more attractive than the current generation Jeep Cherokee. I’d buy one if I could find a decent used example near where I live. It doesn’t have to look spotless like this. But it does have to be driveable. Everything has to work, and it has to be bone stock.

This is our car! I bought it on ebay from him for $7,000. People have offered us twice that and it’s been great over the past year or 2. We put 10,000 miles on it since we bought it. I’m going to print out this write-up so we have it with the car.
