Sweet Shop Truck: 1964 Chevrolet C10

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Early Chevrolet C10 pickups are stylish, cool, and are simply not as common as the later style C10’s. Often difficult to find, or riddled with rust, thankfully there are a few that survive like this 1964 short bed big back window pickup. With a lot of recent maintenance, and a V8 heart, this sleek looking pickup would make an awesome shop truck. Bidding has risen to $4,050 with several days remaining. Check out this truck here on eBay out of Sterling Heights, Michigan.

Under the hood is a 283 V8 mated to a rebuilt TH350 automatic transmission. Also this truck features power steering, but manual brakes. The seller has put a lot of work and new parts into this truck including a virtually new/rebuilt brake system, a fuel tank and sender, water pump, headers, and exhaust. I would have opted for a power brake set up, but as this truck sits, it is a solid looking truck. Also the suspension has been worked over where this truck has a subtle, yet cool appearance.

Inside you will find what looks to be a nearly factory new interior. The steering wheel and door panels show some age, but the carpet and seat cover are new. While the original AM radio is in place, it is not functioning. This truck was originally a 3 speed on the column manual, and that column shifter was kept and modified to the current automatic transmission.

Thought to have been repainted only once in its lifetime, this truck isn’t quite as original as it seems. The rocker panels have been replaced, and paint matched to suit the trucks original like appearance. The only rust to really contend with is in very common areas for these trucks. The hood has some small pin holes around its outer edges, and the bottom of the tail gate has some pin holes, along with a couple of larger areas. Some minor rust can be found behind the rear wheel arches, but this appears to be surface rust, or perhaps fine pin hole rot like the tailgate. Also there is some rust along the rain gutter, especially on the front side of the cab near the windshield. Diamond plate has been welded into the bed, and it isn’t exactly pretty. The rare and hard to find hood is nice and straight, as is the rest of the truck. The grill is pushed in a little on the driver side, but otherwise looks fair. With a great weathered appearance, this truck would make the ultimate cruiser. Are you a fan of this ’64 C10?

Sorry, still looks like sacked out springs and doesn’t look cool to me at all. Proof positive, the people that lower these trucks have no intention of hauling anything with it. Be dragging the back bumper. Lower your Chevelle, but leave the trucks alone.

Of course, they don’t plan on hauling anything heavy with it. Who gets an old truck like this, to use for firewood or landscaping or to use as a work truck? Who ever owns this, will have an old beater or a newer truck to use for that.

Well I have 2 old trucks like this, and that IS exactly what they have been for the last 20 years I owned them, Old beaters, Farm trucks, Hauled everything from Manure from the neighbors dairy farm, to young calves, Hay harvests, firewood, and tons and tons of car and motorcycle parts. Both mine have travelled up and down the west coast to Swap meets as well. NOW,, they are stylish suddenly, I always thought they were which is why I owned them, but I did work them, and hard. Its funny how some just laughed at me for driving an old beater truck, yet others would stop and want to talk about such a cool old truck. But it happens a LOT more now. I guess like many of us,, i was just ahead of my time! It is amusing though to see people look at this kind of truck like its a pampered show piece. Some vehicles get patina faked, some earn it. (PS, I hate vehicles I cant repair or maintain myself)

Sorry Howard A, I love the the lowered look… and I’m not even from California. This is a cruiser, not a hauler.

That’s ok, it’s just trucks were never “cruisers” to me. They were machines meant to work, or out you go,,,

I’m with you bobhess, absolutely great stance on this lowered c-10!The poverty caps and steelies comes to justice with this truck’s drop.

Given brake system is reworked, I’m almost SHOCKED PO/seller didn’t have it converted into dual circuit master once he was at it.Cab seems rather good actually; bed not so much…but would be fixable with repop panels

Speaking of shop trucks, Did Barn Finds ever buy one? And any one hear any news about the new site that they were selling the Corvette to fund? And will we ever be able to post photos here again? It was always a treat to see related rigs to the stories and other readers rides! As a subscriber, I think this site has lost some of it’s charm with out it. All I got for now, take care, Mike.

@leiniedude – We haven’t found a shop truck yet. We do have a new site we have been working on. The Corvettes have come and gone though. Right now there’s a ’28 Ford and a couple of Porsche projects sitting in the shop. Finally, we removed the comment attachment field because we are currently trying to find ways to speed up the site and make it more secure. The feature may return soon though. Thanks for asking.

Nice truck, has some rust issues but they all rust in same spots and patch pieces readily available. Someone replaced the wood flooring with diamond plate too.
Seems the seller got burned buying the truck and had to rework most of it, but seems honest in what he had to do. I have a 1965 Long bed version of this truck, classics.

My first truck while in high school was a ’65 short wide. 283, auto, with A/C that worked great. Used to take dates out because they didn’t like riding in my 1963 Falcon hot rod. It had a good ride and handled pretty well. I have always wanted another one.

I’m with howard, hate the lowering job on this. It Boggles my mind why the guy would go to all the trouble to go over the brakes and at least convert to dual master cyl? Discs would help stopping this truck. Other than the sorry@ss lowering job, which could be reversed, nice cruiser. Good luck to the new owner, if you like the lowered look, go for it!

A truck like this could easily be MY shop truck, but it would also be my runabout, and my daily driver. It’s a little too low for me but that could be easily remedied. At least the stance it has won’t have it getting high-centered on a cigarette paper. I like the 283, and the TH350 is a good transmission, but that last thing I would put on would be headers. Good cast iron manifolds will do a good enough job to get the exhaust out without burning off the plug wires and raising the engine bay temperature to something just shy of the underground temperature of Chernoble. Overall, I like the truck. It would be a driver for a spell until I could get some decent paint on it. But I wouldn’t be ashamed to run it for a couple of years like this…

Check this out all you who “hate” these lowered trucks-whoever lowered this truck WANTED IT THIS WAY BECAUSE IT’S OWNER AT THE TIME WANTED TO LOWERED IT.Go do what ya want to your truck. My ’65 long C20 (yes a 3/4 ton) is only lowered 4″ in the rear(haven’t got around to C notching the frame yet, and the front has 2 1/2″ drop spindles with 1 round of coil cut off. A hot 415 small block, real M 22,front discs w/8 lugs……Hell, what’s not to like ? It’s mine, and if ya don’t like it GOOD…Pass me up at the shows.

ahh !st Gear BF is all about opinions. Its like *ssholes, everyone has one. My taste doesn’t go for it, but I surely envy the work that goes into it. I will stop and look at your truck at the shows. No need to get worked up over it. Thanks for voicing your opinion, and I will look for your truck at the shows! This is supposed to be fun- lets all work hard and keep it that way.

    Cheers
