When collections come up for sale, it can sometimes be a disappointing assortment of half-finished projects with no real value other than in the eyes of the owner. And when it comes time to trying to part ways with such vehicles, the seller decides to only offer it as one lump purchase, making it even harder to separate long-suffering classics from the grips of an over-burdened collector. However, sometimes collection sales yield some very worthwhile projects, all in decent condition and worthy of rescue. This appears to be such a collection, with desirable cars like this Jaguar SS100 replication and many others available here on craigslist.
Replicas aren’t always the most sought-after classics, but both SS100 and this XK120 replicas appear to be of high quality and highly accurate in terms of scale and details. Suffolk Sports Cars and Finch Restorations both make very detailed clones of the original SS100, which has become a very pricey car to buy in original form. The XK120 may be a Nostalgia Cars replica, which again, like the SS100, was not your average kit car; it was built to a very high standard and far from the cheapest British knock-off you could buy. They were fairly expensive new, and I wouldn’t expect either of these cars to be given away.
However, they will still be cheaper than an actual production model. But if you want the real deal, the seller does have a very worthwhile Morgan Plus 4 for sale. The Plus 4 is an excellent choice for a classic roadster that can take a few friends and is still reasonable to buy, price-wise. Now, here in the states, a LHD example is far more sought after but also harder to find. The photos of the exterior appear to show a car in good shape and the interior is in very good condition, with full gauges and a wood dash in good order. The leather seats appear to be surviving quite nicely, too.
I believe this is a desirable and exceedingly rare Apollo GT in completely disassembled form, but the seller doesn’t mention this particular car in the listing. If my hunches are correct, it’s easily the most desirable car here, and will sell for well into the six figures when complete. With V8 power and an incredible shape, it’s an entry into Concours events all around the globe without having to own a Ferrari that costs a million or more to buy. The seller has a wonderful assortment of classics for sale, with many others listed in the description. Which British car project are you taking home?
I’ll take the Thorndyke Special, hands down. Don’t know that I’d paint it yellow, though ;-)
The Excalibur was interesting looking
