The Perfect Use For A TR7!

TR7 Truck

Triumph thought they were creating the sports car of the future, but in reality they had built what would become one of Britain’s most maligned creations. Even TR faithful regularly turn their backs on the poor TR7. It wasn’t all bad, but once stereotypes are formed, they are hard to break. As a result, parts supply are relatively slim and values have stayed low. That isn’t necessarily bad if you want a cheap project or if you want to build one of these… We aren’t sure who started this whole thing, but there is a small group of guys who like to take unassuming car bodies and stick them on 4×4 chassis. This TR7 has been dropped on a CJ7 frame and is powered by a 302 V8 from a Monte Carlo. Take a look here on craigslist where it’s listed for $4,800. The seller claims that they have even used it as a daily driver! I’m not encouraging this type of thing, but honestly it does seem like a good use for a car that is so disdained. What do you think?

Leaf springs fore and aft? Must handle like a Series One Land Rover after a bad (good) night at the pub!

I’ve always wanted to build a Mercedes 107 (450,500,560SL) on a Chevy K5 Blazer chassis. That way you’d have a convertible 4X4 for cruising FL beaches, and also piss off everyone at the country club…..Can you say “Hillbilly Deluxe”?

The TR-7 was the result of British Mis management that wouldn’t allocate the money to do it right from the start, The later ones got the 5 speed, stronger R/E and engine improvements and THEN–the ALLOY V8! doing a better job than the Sunbeam Tiger! Detractors ignore that the ORRIBLE tr7 won it’s class at the ARRC and placed well at many races! Most of the moaning was about too much change and not more beens like the MG TF which “everyone (MG T-C/TD owners) hated along the MG-a when it came out not looking like it’s predecessors.

I knew it! People have nothing better to do with their time. I’m sure this was the same person who started the mullet craze. Go figure.

Every one has a dream, sorry dude this will be a tough sell. Probably spent more than 4,800 dollars in time just to get to this point. Good luck.

Have owned my 1980 TR7 for 36 years. It’s a great car; modern, comfortable, good performance and road handling. Yes, it’s looked down on by some …. But before you knock it try one out, you might be surprised.
