Tiny RHD Import: 1998 Honda Capa

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

The Capa (short for “capacity”) was a small commuter car built by Honda from 1998 to 2002. It was designed to compete with the Nissan Cube but was only sold in its home market. This first-year edition with right-hand drive was individually imported and comes with the appropriate paperwork. Located in Ellington, Connecticut, this U.S. anomaly needs a bit of work and is available here on Facebook Marketplace for $5,000. This tip was brought to us by “Lothar… of the Hill People”.

Measuring just over 12 feet in length, the Capa is a 5-door wagon with seating for four. It’s not as stylish as the Cube, which may have led to much lower-than-anticipated sales and to Honda’s decision to drop out after four years. You could order one with either FWD or 4WD. It was smaller than the CR-V, which meant you should have no problem finding a parking space downtown. Under the hood lies a 1.5-liter 4-banger paired with a CVT transmission.

We don’t know the circumstances of how this car landed in New England. And perhaps it’s only one of a handful you might ever find on these shores. It has 72,000 miles, so it saw a fair amount of use either in Japan or the U.S. The body looks good, and the blue paint has a few blemishes but nothing to fret over. The interior matches the rest of the car, and driving from the opposite side of the car might take some getting used to.

The seller says the little machine needs a new pair of struts, which we hope are not hard to source. After all, it is a Honda. We’re told it’s a “good car” overall, and it should attract attention at Cars & Coffee due to its heritage. The Capa is sharing a garage with a couple of Coke vending machines – wonder if you could get one as part of the deal?
