This 1967 Corvette was stored for 15 years after being in a rear-end collision. While it certainly needs some major work (more below) it seems like a project worth taking on. It’s listed for sale here on eBay and if you are planning for pickup, it’s located in Warner Robins, Georgia. There’s a buy it now of $37,500 but current bidding is just over $17,000. Thanks go to Patrick S for sending in the tip!
Gee, from this angle the car looks great! Unfortunately, the seller tells us it needs a new frame due to being rusted and broken in the dogleg area. I would be more concerned about the birdcage at this point because I see good Corvette frames for sale frequently — but I’m not an expert. Would one of our Corvette folks please tell us in the comments how difficult a frame exchange is on a C2?
Here is the actual damage. The seller tells us that new panels for this repair are around $1,500 but obviously, that doesn’t include installation. They do have a good set of replacement bumpers, but for some reason, the fuel tank is completely missing.
The original interior looks pretty nice at first glance but close-ups of the dash reveal rusty screws, which tell me that moisture has been able to get into the car (reference the first picture that shows a window being partially down).
We are also told that this is the original engine, original four-speed transmission, and original rear end. The seller suggests turning the car into a restomod; I’m not against those in general if the car has no hope of being restored to original spec, but it would be a shame to see that done to this car (I think). More importantly, what do you Barn Finds readers think?
Junior!!! Get your fingers out of the fan,,,kids.
For the 37,500 buy it now you could get a better car for sure, at least out our way. This appears to be a minefield of hidden trouble.
Agree, way over priced BIN, plenty of cars available running drivers at minimum for a little more. Not worth the effort at that price.
I think it depends on your level of enthusiasm for this year model. I’m not a fan of restomods, and this has potential I guess.
37k??????
You will see Paul Lynde JUNIOR before I’d pay that amount.
What did Paul Lynde ever do to you? Old, dusty joke :)
$37,000 is high even if it had a good title. But this one has a salvage certificate. 350hp and these colors are very desirable. I wish I would NEVER read the words resto mod again.
It’s not a terrible job to change a frame. All the original date coded running gear make it a resto candidate. But that is a $30k proposition minimal and it’s a small block to boot — they just don’t bring that kind of money — so I would say you will be upside down from day one. So restomod seems reasonable especially with the title issues. For $20k (what I personally think it’s worth) you could safely restore it. Done — it’s a $50k car
If it has the original engine and transmission, there is no way it should be turned into a resto mod!
This car is worth saving. World doesn’t need another chopped up original car to make a resto mod. Damage is minimal. Frame can be fixed this should be restored IMHO
Just another small block Vette. Yawn! Good pro-touring project.
Always wanted a C2 convertible since I was a young teenager. $37,500 would be what I think could be paid for a decent not perfect driver. Even at $20,000, For a car you can’t even start up and/or drive would be a hard pill to swallow for a starter project. Especially for the unknown rust issues that will be popping up when you get started into it. I could deal with the rusty screws and even the frame replacement, but birdcage I would be worried about. Anything is fixable, but at what cost? May be better off buying something better to start off with for the money. Current bid is $29,900 with 5 days to go. Ouch! Maybe I’ll have to stay with my Pontiacs.
Worth the save if there is a way to clear the title. Frame change isn’t that hard. The biggest problem is the price. The seller thinks he has something special. Simple fact is he has a broke Chevy.
no way to much money think how much will it take to do right 100 k???
Sorry guys if it needs a new frame it’s not going on a C2 frame resto mod is the way to go it’s not a big block car I love all original from the factory when it makes sense and you not up side down not the case here
Thank you seller for at least cleaning it up a bit. Nothing dumber than someone who tries to tell me a car is worth more with the barn dirt on it.
I agree with Bill. This is 50 K car in my area. To many unknowns.
So, this car, the one we’re talking about, is worth MORE than the BIN of $37,500 in your area? Confused. You mean restored in your area it would only bring $50k?
Too bad for the car! This is the end of the era when the really nice corvettes existed! I don’t think that the price is very reasonable myself! That being said, I really hope that the new owner can bring this one back! The way the bidding is going, I wouldn’t be surprised if some of those bidders aren’t just after the drive train and the Vin tags off it! I am assuming that it has a title?
$29,900 already. It’s becoming clear to me that my lifelong dream of owning one of these beauties will never materialize.
A Roadster shop chassis and LS3 for this car is $35,000. If this car needs a new frame, Roster shop is the way to go. Why would you put an antique engine that has been sitting for 15 years back in the car if you have to switch out the frame anyway. I put a LS3 in my 63 Nova and it is a modern marvel. 12 bolt or 10 on the rear end?
IF YOU HAVE NEVER DRIVEN ONE OF THESE YOU WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND…restore it… to bad title is branded
Branded title. Bent frame…
Time for a chassis swap/upgrade, LSX 6-speed, big brakes. “Take it back to original.” Why? It’s not an original “Creampuff” or survivory. So make it as modern, safe & comfortable as possible. Then drive it. All over.
You will not live forever, who cares once you die? Be that person who drove a vintage car all over, let people see it, and be an emissary for the hobby
This happened to me back in the day. I had a 65 nassau blue Corvette in 1968 and I got rear ended while sitting at a light by a Mustang. Lady was looking into a restaurant window for her boyfriend while driving 45mph . Knocked my car clear across the intersection along with my spare tire compartment with tire. Folded the tops of my floor mats down and put the gear shift lever in 2nd. My head bounced off the convertible compartment lid, possibly saving me from whip lash. When I went back to see the lady, she was trying to get her car to start. Must have been in shock because the Mustang was totaled.
The insurance company repaired my car and I drove it another 2 years. I think my age of 24 saved me from any serious injuries.
“Convertible compartment lid.” Thanks to the Chevy designers. If this was a true roadster like my MG whiplash would surely have occurred.
Yes with most….just kinda hard to find a Vette of ANY year with the original drive train.
