Moving house can be fraught with dramas, and sometimes we have to part with things that we really don’t want to. The owner of this ’86 Monte Carlo SS is in just such a bind. He is moving, so the car has to go. You will find it listed for sale here on eBay. It is located in Trenton, New Jersey, and comes with a clear title. The owner has set a BIN price of $3,900 for the Monte Carlo, but the option is there to make an offer.
The seller bought the Monte Carlo from the original owner about a year ago, and he describes it as a survivor car that needs some work. There is some rust beginning to appear in some of the lower areas on the car, such as the rust that you can see above in the driver’s door. The glass is good, but the owner thinks that it may need new weather stripping around the doors. Overall though, the car looks straight, and the presentation isn’t too bad.
The interior of the Monte Carlo is probably one of its highlights. The dash looks original, as does the carpet. The dash pad is cracked, but the previous owner has gone to the trouble and expense of having the seats and door trims reupholstered, and they do look really good. The rest of the plastic trim and headliner appear to be in good order.
The Monte Carlo is fitted with a 305ci V8 and a Turbo Hydramatic 200-4R transmission. The car hasn’t been on the road since it was purchased by the current owner, but he says that the car starts and runs and that it has good oil pressure and no rattles. He does think that the carburetor may need a rebuild because the car occasionally runs rough. The car has also recently undergone a service and is also fitted with a new battery, and the tires are also nearly new. Also fitted to the car are power steering, power brakes, and air conditioning.
Project grade ’86 Monte Carlos are always available in the market, and their cost is determined by the amount of work that is required to whip them into shape. This one doesn’t require a massive amount of work to make it into a nice car, and the reupholstered seats and door trims are a bonus. The general rule of thumb is that cars in about this condition that require only minor rust repairs as this one does, will generally sell for around $4,500. At the asking price, this Monte Carlo SS looks like a competitive deal.
Nice Monte Carlo. Not as classy as the larger 1970-1977 models but well proportioned and equipped for an 1986. The fact that it hasn’t been driven for a while makes the car a gamble for a non mechanic. The SS label even with a downsized 5 liter engine should still command some buyer interest.
Those seats were recovered. They do look decent, though. These were a big pain to work on, and not powerful at all. He’s a little ambitious with the buy it now price, I doubt if it’ll go for that much. He’s not too outrageous, though, like many cars we see where the owner tries to make his whole year on one sale.

700R4’s were in camaro’s, corvette’s, and trucks never in Monte Carlo’s there was no need for the heavier duty 700 with a 180 HP 305 i had an 86 same color but bench seat 2004R column shift
My aunt and uncle had a 80s Monte Carlo I can’t remember what year exactly and it was matalic blue with the 305 in it and they drove the car to Tennessee to visit my uncle’s family and when they left the engine blew outside of town so they towed it back to his family’s house and they stripped the interior and my aunt signed the title and left it in the floor board of the car and told me I could have the car for free if I had the time and money to go get it which I didn’t have either of if I could of got it I would of left the paint the same and take out the 305 and automatic transmission and put in a supercharged 427 with dual 750 double pumper 4 barrel carbs and a beefed up m22 rock crusher Muncie 4 speed manual transmission and a thumper cam and raise up the rear end for a 12 inch wide tire or what ever would fit with out tubing the car and a custom exhaust
