We’ve seen quite a few twin-track Raider snowmobiles here on Barn Finds over the last decade or so, and they’ve usually been the standard white color, other than maybe a Golden Eagle or two. This unusual, light blue-colored 1974 Raider Eagle is listed here on Facebook Marketplace in Pulaski, Wisconsin, and the seller is asking $1,900. Here is the original listing, and thanks to Lothar… of the Hill People for the twin-track tip!

The Raider was offered from 1970 to 1975, and the company was founded in 1969 by a man named Bob Bracey from Detroit. Mr. Bracey had worked for each of the Big Three automakers, and also the famous Kar Kraft, one of the companies involved in the Ford GT40. The earliest twin-track models were called the Roamer, but by 1972, the factory moved to a bigger facility, and the Raider was born, after retiring the Roamer name. A snowmobile that you sit in rather than straddling like a horse was a different concept.

Without any badges (I don’t have to show you any stinkin’ badges!), decals, model names, or anything, I’m not sure exactly what this model is. The seller doesn’t give much info, and they have only included six tiny (vertical! GAA!) photos in their listing, so it’s hard to tell what this one is or judge the condition. There was a brown and a blue model offered in 1975, and the blue one was an Eagle 340 with no Eagle decal on it, but it would have had a black stripe on the side and Raider decals on the sides of the engine cover.

The 1974 Raider Eagle had a standard speedometer and optional tach, which this one doesn’t have, but the speedometer leads me to believe this may be a repainted ’74 Eagle? The base Hawk model had no speedometer and no ski shocks, and this one has both, so it isn’t a Hawk. My main source for snowmobile information is my three-book series, the absolute snowmobile bible: Pierre Pellerin’s “Snowmobile History.” The Raider/Roamer is shown in Volume 2, which spans models from the Mach X to Ski-Doo. Whatever this model of Raider is, it appears to be in nice condition overall. I’ve never ridden on or in a Raider, but I know some of you have. It would seem scary to be inside of one unless you were on a frozen lake or somewhere it wouldn’t tip over.

There is no photo showing the engine, but it’s in the back, and the 1974 Eagle had either a 398-cc or a 436-cc twin. The seller doesn’t say which one this is, but they do say that it runs and drives and is a fun machine for around the house. I’m guessing outside more than inside… Do any of you know what model this is or what the engine might be?

I remember Raiders… but not one like this. Cool find Lothar. Thanks SG
Thanks, Stan. I’ve never seen the light blue color, but I like it.
The styling of the back of it looks a lot like an AMC Gremlin.
I think you may be onto something, Tom. What if they had made a “Pacer” version, with a fishbowl-like glass engine cover in the back? Ok, that might be too much.
This looks like something I could ride to while I bullseye womprats.
