Unrestored Biarritz: 1960 Cadillac Eldorado

To me, one of the sadder aspects of the hobby is the realization that for so many once-great brands, enthusiasts won’t seek out the barn-find version of a Cadillac cross-over vehicle, or some cheap CTS that spent its last years in active use as a total beater. Cars like this 1960 Eldorado convertible stand in stark contrast to many of Cadillac’s modern day offerings, as they won’t be nearly as desirable as a car like this. Find this survivor Eldorado here on eBay with a $79,500 Buy-It-Now and the option to submit a best offer.

No matter your opinion of the future of the Cadillac brand, this seems like the seller to buy a vintage car from. Not only is he upfront about its impressively few issues, but most of them have already been fixed. The seller acknowledges the mufflers were rotted out; they have been replaced. The air suspension still works (!) but the seller has installed air shocks and blocks to take the weight off the very fragile air suspension pods so they don’t rupture during shipment. The brake booster and master cylinder were rebuilt and re-installed following some concerns about brake pedal feel.

That’s an impressive level of follow-through and attention to detail, especially considering a car this nice stands on its own even with those issues. The seller says it was purchased from an estate, where it had been stored indoors and not run since the early 1990s. The Cadillac does still start up and run without too much of a fuss, and given how little cosmetic or storage-related damage is present, I have to believe this car was loved despite its limited use. The seats are dry but the seller claims there are no tears or holes in the surfaces.

According to the seller, “Tri-Power and air cleaner are obviously original to car and the vacuum switches and all linkage are intact and functional.  All “3” carbs are factory and have the original tags with correct numbers as pictured.” There’s little doubt this is a highly original specimen deserving of its asking price, and given the Eldorado convertible achieved legendary status eons ago, $80K seems like a bargain for a car that will always be an icon.

I was about to ask the same question. The Caddy certainly looks familiar.

As I said in the prev listing for this car, the airbags can probably be resealed by covering their insides with Loctite PL Roof & Flashing sealant & let cure for 3 days, after degreasing all surfaces to be sealed by using Brakekleen from green can or wally world’s Supertech degreaser. I”ve glued tires back together with this stuff, steering & driveshaft boots, all sorts of things including engine mounts.

Definetely a keeper but simply too much for my income. It’s the one Cadillac model I have love since it was produced.

In so many ways the 1960 is visually superior to the ’59 – the fins are far more elegant and flow better, the rear fender-to-door chrome accent is more refined and understated. The front end is a bit cleaner as well though it has a somewhat pneumatic look to it – it’s as if it were inflated from within.

I just received the latest issue of Automobile magazine wherein they praise the new BMW 8 series as the design of the year. Frankly it’s a butt-ugly POS that mimics the latest Mustang. If they really wanted to understand what great styling is they could examine this car.

Time passes and tastes change but true beauty endures. Cars like this should last forever.

“BEAUTY LIES IN THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER.”For each of us,to compare any 2(two) years one is tops but the other isn’t.As it was produced,it was a classic & will always be;I too like the ’60 over the ’59,but for different reasons than yours’.To own one-’60-will be wonderful…

Finally a seller who goes to the trouble to offer up the kind of information that a serious buyer would want to know. Kudos to him and I agree, he engenders trust in the listing.

If only I had 80 large sitting around. Owning certain cars as opposed to financial instruments like bonds , stocks etc have proven a better investment imho.

On top of that you get one of the iconic convertibles of the postwar period that has been well taken care of. Checks all the boxes for me AND has the parade boot!

I just saw a restored pink one with white top go by me in The Villages, Fl. yesterday. It was come out of one of our more affluent gated communities. :-)
