Well Documented: 1990 Cadillac Brougham

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

For some enthusiasts, the difference between a good classic and a great one is the amount of original documentation included with the sale. If you share those feelings, this 1990 Cadillac Brougham could be the car for you. The buyer will receive paperwork dating back to Day One and can slip behind the wheel of a vehicle that not only presents superbly but also features some quite expensive factory options. I must say a big thank you to Barn Finder Tony P for spotting the Caddy listed here on Craigslist in Kissimmee, Florida. You could drive the Brougham home after handing the seller $18,500.

Cadillac’s Brougham range, introduced in 1987, received styling updates for the 1990 model year. The company aimed to keep the Brougham looking fresh amid growing market competition by updating or replacing the headlights, taillights, and other exterior features. This Brougham rolled off the line that year, ordered by its first owner in stunning Autumn Maple Firemist with a matching vinyl top. Criticizing its appearance is difficult because the paint shines beautifully, the vinyl is in as-new condition, and the panels are laser-straight. A close-up shot reveals bubbling on the lower rear bumper, though you need to drop to your hands and knees to spot it. The remaining trim is excellent, and the glass is crystal clear. The first owner was willing to splash their cash to create the car of their dreams. The premium paint shade was the beginning, but the optional wire wheels on this Caddy added a cool $1,000 to its sticker price.

Cadillac loaded the Brougham with the creature comforts that luxury buyers expected. Standard equipment included climate-control air conditioning, power windows, power locks, power mirrors, a power driver’s seat, a power trunk lid release, a digital gauge cluster, a tilt/telescopic wheel, a rear defogger, cruise control, and an AM/FM radio/cassette player. The first owner wielded their pen on the Order Form, adding leather to the wheel and the seats, a Twilight Sentinel, power operation for the passenger seat, and a power trunk lid pull-down. This Caddy gets top marks for consistency, with its interior presenting as impressively as its exterior. The leather has elegant age wrinkles, but no evidence of wear or physical damage. The carpet, dash, and pad are excellent, and the woodgrain trim hasn’t deteriorated. The overall condition is consistent with a high-end driver.

The first owner didn’t stop spending money once they’d finished the paint and interior appointments. They ordered this Brougham with the optional Trailer Towing Package, which cost $549. That meant the engine bay received the upgraded 5.7-liter V8, producing a factory-quoted 175hp and 295 ft/lbs of torque. The rest of the major mechanical components include a four-speed automatic transmission, power steering, and power-assisted anti-lock brakes. The seller states that this classic runs and drives perfectly, allowing the new owner to fly in and drive it home. The “Check Engine” light comes on after a few miles, but it doesn’t affect how this beauty rolls down the road. Documentation is one of this car’s strong points, with the deal including the original Bill of Sale, Window Sticker, Sales Brochure, Owner’s Manual, and a spare set of the unique gold keys.

Although it isn’t perfect, its few faults don’t detract from how beautifully this 1990 Cadillac Brougham presents. Addressing the minor bumper issue is optional and can be done at the new owner’s convenience. The seller’s price places it at the top end of the market, though the desirable options, paperwork, and the car’s condition should justify it. If life in the slow and comfortable lane is irresistible, this Cadillac may be the ideal classic for you.

My “check engine” light would come on when using 89 octane in my 2013 Ford. Light goes off using 91 octane.

It’s a bit misleading to say that the Brougham range was introduced in 1987. All they really did was drop “Fleetwood” from the 1980-1986 Fleetwood Brougham.

That being said, this is a lovely example of the breed. Cadillac’s 1990 facelift modernized some of the car’s details and gave it even more presence, especially with the wire wheels (the last car available with genuine wire wheels, I believe). Back in the day, someone in my condo complex had an all-black 1990 Brougham with the wire wheels and blackwall tires. I expected a mob boss to step out every time I saw it.

I love these, but he’s dreaming at that price. Those bumpers rotted from the back out, I had one with holes in it. The seller covered it with bumper stickers.

Wow! Nice red body and that red well-stuffed interior! And it doesn’t have the Northstar garbage (a Chevy mill instead). And, it was ordered with the trailer towing package but no hitch? Being a Sunshine State car, one should check it thoroughly for rust underneath. It is a bit pricey, but one in this condition doesn’t come along too often.

The Chevy 350 is a far better choice than the Olds 307 that came standard on these and which most of them seem to have. So that should be a huge selling point if you’re into these. I don’t believe that these RWD Fleetwoods, thankfully, ever got the Deathstar V-8.

Looks like the owner—current or previous—had a little fun by attaching (quite nicely), below the “5.7 Liter V8” badge on the trunk lid, a “Blackwing” badge currently affixed to Cadillac’s CT4-V Blackwing and CT5-V Blackwing models.

Beautiful car! You can see that this baby was loved. Everytime I see Cadillacs I remember driving my bosses Caddy at the Gulf station where I worked. I remember pinky finger steering it. Such light steering, I never felt any car like that since. It also reminds me of a kid from school who thought racing a rich kid with a Porsche would be a great idea and ended up hitting a tree at over 100 mph 1978 and seems like yesterday. No he never got to experience 19 years old sadly

I don’t think the light that comes on actually reads “check engine”. I think it reads “service engine soon” and there’s a more serious one that comes on and reads “service engine now” so a”soon”light is not anything major but which light is not specified.

Check engine light = check bank account light. If they’re asking good dollars they should get that fixed first. At least they were honest enough to own up to it.

Beautiful car! I would LOVE it, IF it had velour seats: I cannot abide leather upholstery, either at home or on the road. Otherwise, a brilliant red interior might be a bit MUCH. But this IS MY sort of car! Comfort and luxury, and top end all the way! LOVE those, wire wheels!
