In 1964, Buick, Pontiac, and Oldsmobile compacts were all promoted to mid-size status to be on par with Chevy’s new Chevelle. The Special/Skylark was Buick’s entry into that space. While a V6 engine was standard, buyers could opt for a “Wildcat 310 V8” which displaced 300 cubic inches, 210 horsepower, and 310 lb./ft of torque (hence the engine’s name). The seller’s nice convertible has that powerplant and it’s recently been rebuilt and ready to go cruising. Put the top down and let’s go!
We suspect the “Wildcat” language confused people, as not only was it a name for engines, but it was also a full-size automobile (between the LeSabre and Electra). Convertibles were still all the rage in the mid-1960s, and Buick built more than 10,200 Skylark drop-tops (the higher trim level of the Special Series) like the one here. We’re told this car is in its “original condition” and presents quite well, though the back glass in the convertible top needs to be replaced.
The seller provides a receipt attesting to work done to the Buick. It totals nearly $8,000 and most of that is for a remanufactured engine and labor. Because of the wording and a 2-year warranty, we suspect the original engine was jettisoned in favor of another that was newly rebuilt. Thus, there is no claim made by the seller that the car is numbers-matching. With power steering and an automatic transmission, the Buick is almost ready for summer outings.
Appearance-wise, we see no rust or damage to the sheet metal and the white paint (original?) is certainly quite presentable. If you’ve been looking for a nice warm-weather ride, why not check out this Skylark here on craigslist? It’s in West Linn, Oregon, and is available for $17,000 OBO. Looking at the repair bill they show the vehicle being repaired as a 1974 Buick Apollo. It really does not prove that this vehicle has had that done.
Lovely looking car. Between the 1964 and 1965 Buick Skylark, I find the 1964 the best looking. Look at the front end of the car and you’ll see why. I’d buy a 64 Sport Wagon if there was one for sale.

I really like ‘64-‘65 Skylarks, and was excited when I first saw the listing, in spite of the uninspiring color, and tired top. The brown interior was a big let-down, and then the receipt for a ‘74 Apollo 350, which is supposed to prove that the owner spent $8K rebuilding the (a?) “Wildcat 310”. I’m over it. Add the fact that the car had been marinated in the Western Oregon rain; I’m not walking away- I’m running.

My first car was a 64 Buick Skylark, metallic brown with a white interior. Loved that car, not so sure about this particular one as has been stated the brown interior puts me off.
I saw a red 1964 Buick Skylark convertible not far from where I live. I was delivering mail for family when I saw it parked with the top down. It would’ve been nice to talk to the owner of the car.
