1 of 3 Convertibles? 1969 Oldsmobile Hurst/Olds

For nine model years staggered between 1968 and 1984, Oldsmobile partnered with Hurst Performance to build some limited-production muscle cars. A little more than 900 copies of the autos were built in 1969 and all but three would be 2-door hardtops. Unless this is a clone or tribute car, the seller’s Cutlass could be one rare automobile. Found in an Arizona barn, the car is now in Tipp City, Ohio, and looking for a new owner here on craigslist. The asking price is $22,500 and we’re told it’s largely complete, according to the seller. Thanks for the cool tip, Dirk Perrefort!

The 1969 Hurst/Olds would be the first to come with Oldsmobile’s new 455 cubic-inch V8 engine. The silver/black paint job used in 1968 would be replaced with Firefrost Gold over white and that would be the Hurst/Olds primary color combination for years to come. Perhaps for consistency purposes, all of the H/O cars built in 1968 and 1969 were pinstriped by the same worker. We understand that only three convertibles were built out of the total, one for East Coast promotions, one for West Coat events, and a third that replaced one of the other two after it was destroyed.

So, if this car is the real deal, it may be only 1 of 2 if the other drop-top has survived. Under the hood would be a W46 engine that was rated at 380 hp and paired with a TH-400 automatic transmission with the famous Hurst Dual Gate Shifter. The seller says this car has just 65,000 miles with new tires and most of the vehicle is there for restoration. The Olds may have been in an accident as the right front fender is finished in primer and the bumper and grille are MIA. If this car is the genuine article when restored in as-new condition, what could it be worth?

    The 1968 Hurst/Olds also used a 455.

This is likely a clone. Both convertibles exist, and their whereabouts are known to the Hurst/Olds faithful.

Wow! Really only 3 made? Saw one in Concord on the freeway back in the early 80’s late 70’s. Had no idea it was such a Unicorn. Very cool.

The asking price reflects the clone theory.

A real droptop should have the gold striping on both headrests!

Clones are okay. It’s when the seller tries to pass it off as a real one.
