It’s always a great time for racing fans when a new major event is introduced, and 1994 was a noteworthy period for NASCAR, as that was the year the first Brickyard 400 was held. The event took place at the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway and was also a significant moment for Chevrolet, as the Monte Carlo was chosen as the pace car for the inaugural race. A limited run of 400 replicas was also produced, with this 1995 Monte Carlo Brickyard 400 Pace Car here on Craigslist likely among the lowest-mileage survivors out there. This beauty is priced at $26,500 and located in Rochester, Minnesota, with our thanks owed to reader Tony Primo for finding it and sending in the tip!

The seller describes the condition as the same as when it came off the assembly line, which is easy to believe, as it’s only covered 1,420 miles since then. The present owner purchased it about two years ago at an auction after the car had been in collector storage for 30 years, with an odometer reading of 320 at that time. The miles put on since are said to have all been accumulated while going to and from car shows, with the paint, graphics, and wheels looking much as they did when the Chevy was new. It’s noted that the tires have been replaced, but the factory Goodyear components have been saved and can be included if the buyer wants them.

While many old-school racing enthusiasts would probably be more excited about a pace car featuring a V8 and Rear Wheel Drive, the 1995 Monte Carlo was based on the Chevrolet Lumina sedan, meaning you got a 3.4-liter V6 pulling the front wheels on a W-platform. The two actual pace cars used at the Brickyard 400 race are said to have gotten their engines tweaked up to around 250 horsepower, but the consumer editions only made 210 in factory form. However, they all had the Z34 sport suspension package, so handling should be pretty good.

Some nice interior upgrades were included in the Brickyard 400 package, such as leather seats and a power-assisted driver’s bucket. As it should, things inside still look like new, as does the platform, which the seller says was recently treated with WoolWax, an undercoating process that’s supposed to protect the undercarriage from corrosion. The owner also mentions that reasonable offers will be considered, so the price may be negotiable. Is this 1995 Monte Carlo Pace Car one you’d be interested in pursuing?

Too bad it only has a so-so engine. A 350 V8 would have been more fitting, but then again there goes the FWD and platform too. Nice car for sure.
