14K Miles And No Reserve: 1973 Cadillac Eldorado

And now, another take on Cadillac’s famed Eldorado, in this case a 14 K-mile 1973 edition. As opposed to this 1960 Biarritz example, this Eldo is probably more in line with what people mentally conjure when Cadillac’s personal luxury car comes to mind. This baby’s spotless, and the seller claims, “A fine example of one of Cadillac’s finest El Dorado, this vehicle is all original from top to bottom. It has never been touched since 1973.” OK then, let’s look her over in detail. Elk Grove Village, Illinois, is where you’ll find this big front-wheel driver, and it’s available here on eBay for a no-reserve bid of $8,511 with fourteen bids tendered so far. T.J. gets a nod and a wink for this tip!

The Eldorado was in its third year of a major redesign that occurred with the 1971 model year. Some sources refer to this car as a member of the ninth generation, and whether that’s the correct nomenclature or not, isn’t particularly relevant. What we do know is that this generation spanned the years 1971 through 1978 and saw this halo car gain size and weight over its sharply chiseled 1967-1970 predecessors. Flabby looking? Maybe, as with other marques, the ’73 five MPH bumper standard didn’t do this car’s looks any favors, though it is, comparatively, pretty well integrated. As for sales, this model year did well, knocking out 51K copies with 82% in fixed roof form.

The seller states, “Always garage and pampered since New never smoked in, never driven in winter months, so it is 100% rust free driven on weekends only, itโ€™s always been well taken care of. ” Well, it certainly presents well, that’s for sure. The Laredo Tan Poly finish, vinyl top, chrome, and stainless trim are in like-new condition. There’s no evidence of docking mishaps that often befall these massive rigs. The seller adds, “The luxurious tan color and sleek design make it a standout piece for weekend drives.

This Eldorado’s engine room harbors a 235 net HP, 500 CI (8.2 liter) V8 engine, driving the front wheels via a Turbo-Hydramatic 425, three-speed automatic transmission that is integrated with a front drive differential. The seller claims mechanical perfection.

The white leather-upholstered interior is as fresh and clean as the exterior and certainly supports this car’s low mileage recording. Even the armrests and door handles don’t show signs of dirty fingers – something that is just unavoidable. Said to be a one-owner car, there’s a dash plaque attached that reads “Earnest Buchanan,” so I’ll assume Mr. Buchanan should get the thumbs up for such meticulous care that he bestowed on this Eldo.

Someone’s going to walk away with quite a deal, methinks. We’re still in reasonable bid territory, though we do have five days to go in the haggling. I suppose comparing this Eldorado to its 1960 Biarritz predecessor is a bit of an apples-to-oranges comparison, but I know which one I’d pick if an Eldorado were my style; how about you?
