1954 Chevrolet: Faded Memories

This old Chevy listed here on craigslist is a nice old car with the usual 6 cylinder and 3 speed. It was only sitting for about 10 years and was stored well and on jacks, so it didn’t take much to get it back on the road. It is said to be rust free and runs smoothly and quietly as these old sedans do. The interior is even in decent shape. The $8,500 asking seems a bit steep, but the owner is open to offers. This old Chevy is ready to be driven and enjoyed as it is or perhaps updated a bit with some new paint and a few upgrades.

The biggest telltale of faded paint may be the owner’s attempt to match the fenderskirts in blue. The new paint is probably the correct color. Wouldn’t bother me, I’m a little mismatched myself. Reminded me of Steve McQueen’s last movie, the Hunter, where the protagonist drives a 51 convertible.

That car is in my home town. Growing up there, cars like this are stashed all over….and still are to this day.

I love these 4 door cars. I personally would rather have a 4 door over a 2 door any day. Sorry to say but this car should be priced at half of what there asking.

This is a cool car, seemingly, ready to enjoy. A friends dad had a car like this, I remember the dash, and his dad rowing away at the column shift. The extra bumper guards look a little funky, but I have seen others that do that, most had just 2. IDK, it seems, $8500 is the new $5000. Seems everybody starts at $8500 now. Still, not many around like this, that haven’t been slammed (or whatever they call it)

A car very similar to this was the family car to a family with 12 kids when I was in school during the 60s. Fortunately the family was spread out enough so there were never more than 8 kids at a time in it. The family eventually bought a new Pontiac in ’67. I still have memories of that old ’54 pulling up to the school, the rear door opening and a stream of kids from 1st grade to 6th (2 sets of twins in the mix) emerged.

Nice older black plate 4 dr Chevy, from the California central valley. Looks very good but just has two doors to many for me, and the price seems a bit high for the extra doors. I would say $5k tops and this would make a nice local cruiser.

Maybe the 3 in $3500 looks like an 8 in $8500. Then maybe

Whoever put ugly RED wheels on a blue, car and can’t match the skirts, is so color blind, he should turn in his driver’s license. I’d hate to meet this jerk at a signaled intersection.
